We have high sulfur and high ph in well water. We went with Culligan chlorination system. There are two different kinds of sulfur in well water. Ours has sulfur bacteria. A harmless nuisance bacteria. Aeration will not work on sulfur bacteria. It looks like that is what you may have since each company is suggesting equipment that kills bacteria. You don't mention a retention tank which goes before the carbon filter. Research online from my experience and from each water co. we had come to our house says retention tank is needed. Sulfur in well water is difficult. Problem is getting the correct dosage. As chlorine ages it deteriorates, our well water the sulfur level changes so getting the correct dosage of chlorine takes work. You use a pool test kit to check the chlorine level before it goes to the carbon filter. We got a backwashing carbon filter. Cartridge carbon filter clog to quickly. Our equipment is 10 years old and we haven't had a problem. Get it right the water taste good and no smell. When the dosage is off you may not notice the smell ( you get immune to it) but those who visit will notice. We get our drinking water from a natural spring nearby that many people from all over come to. However, I will occasionally taste the water just to be sure everything is working good and as long as the dosage is right the water taste good.

Peke, was it trihalomethanes in the water? THM? That's a pretty common problem, which is the result of chlorinated water combining with organic matter, such as what you get after big storms when sediment washes into the streams. A basic carbon filter is all you need. Even one of the simple ones that attaches to the tap will be fine, very easy to solve. See? Isn't it nice to have an *easy* problem to solve, for a change? :) Karin

Thank. My Greenhouse is watered by a buried drip tape system. The hard water is constantly clogging it up. Also, my experience has been that my plants do no do that well on my well water. I wish I had a reliable source of rain water, but I just don't. Rain comes a couple times a year here with up to 6 months in between. It just not something I can turn to for my 800 square foot greenhouse.

A project in planning since 2016 is finally underway. I had intended to reuse my main kitchen faucet because I absolutely adore(d) it, but because we discovered we have a major problem with hard water and corrosion, it has to be replaced. It is/was a 15 year old Kohler "semi-professional" gooseneck pull down with multiple sprays effects. It's been a wonder. There is nothing *quite* the same on the market today. Kohler has a similar-ish 'semi-professional' model that seems butt-ugly to me - I fear I will get it, love using it and hate looking at it. But that is not the core of the problem. The core of the problem is that right next to that 'semi-professional' workhorse I had - and want to replace - there was a (cold) water dispenser. In the old kitchen, now demolished, these two faucets matched. But Kohler, in its infinite wisdom, is now not selling anything that matches the butt-ugly 'semi-professional' gooseneck faucet (I am specifically referring to the base of the faucets here - the part that sits on the counter). So I guess I'm asking: how dramatically awful would it be to have similarly-colored but dramatically differently styled faucet bases sitting next to each other? My inner designer cringes, first florbut the practical / chef in me simply sighs and thinks, 'cr*p, that's life'. Opinions? That's question number 1. Question 2 is: I think I want to install a water filtration system for the water dispenser faucet. Have any of you used these? Found them effective? Ineffective? Useless? Obligatory for drinking water? Background: we are currently down to just the faucet in the first floor 'powder room' and that water is cloudy and somewhat scary.
