On my Old Acer Aspire 5742z-4601 I only need push the Num Lock Key in the Upper Left Corner of the Number Pad on my Laptop. Next time I turn on the computer the Num Lock is Still engaged unless I would press the Num Lock Key again. Maybe it's a computer sensitive feature. I checked the Keyboard Icon in Control Panel and there were no settings for Number Lock!

Just went in and checked my Self-built AMD Phenom II w/Logitech MX5500 Keyboard/Mouse Combo. There were No Num Lock Keys like on my Laptop. When I opened the Calculator my Number Pad worked. I checked in the Logitech Settings for the Keyboard and didn't see any settings.

Just looked at our other 3 Laptops and They all had Num Lock Keys. My wife is on her Old Lenovo G560 Laptop right now so I can't check it. The other Two are for Birthday Presents for my Wife and I. She doesn't know I purchased them, and with her here I can't get them out to check them (I did see they have Num Locks though). These Two computers are Acer Aspire V5 573P-6896 Ultrathin Laptops (I've installed Windows 10 on all of my Windows computers, even the new two).

At this point I can just assume that they all work when freshly booted. I will know more tomorrow. But nothing I've found so far can help you!

The first method suggests turning NumLock on at the login screen, then instead of logging in, use the power icon to restart.

The second method involves a registry edit. You should attempt that only if you feel comfortable doing so.

I don't have a real Windows 10 machine handy so can't say if either method works or not. Just something to read, consider, and maybe try if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have a g570 Lenovo and with every operating system its ever had including windows 10 and newer even... its num-lock stays the way you last set it... through reboots, rain, wind... don't know about snow.

Same with all the other laptop I've owned.

Think older desktops had a setting in bios to enable numlock or not.

Thanks so much for the replies. I tried the suggestion from the winaero site but still it won't stay locked for me. Mind you, it could be user error -- new Acer computer (the old Acer stayed number locked for me) and new to Win10. I'm not comfortable with the registry bit -- afraid the whole thing will blow up on my lap. So if pushing a button with every log in is the worst thing that happens, I'll just push the button!

I just tried my New Acer Aspire V5 573P-6896 Laptop. The Number Lock works just fine. I checked the Setting in the Calculator and didn't see anything about the Number Lock.

I didn't have time to check out the Registry Edit yesterday, but I just looked at it today. It's an extremely easy Edit, you're just changing the number in one line! I'm sure this is something you can handle! Come on, you just Upgraded your Windows 7 to Windows 10! If you can handle this Upgrade you can handle this small Registry Edit! When I got my HP with W8 the Num Lock acted normally following each boot. When I upgraded to W8.1 the system required a tap of the Num Lock key following each boot. This continues with the upgrade to W10.

One key stroke is such a small task I don't remember giving the situation any thought.
