Comments (15)In my experience big brassicas planted this early won't grow because light intensity and soil temps are still too low. This kind of stress is not good. My seedlings start going out under cloches in late March, but April plantings perform better (last frost date May 5-10). Lettuce and spinach do well under tunnels or or other frames this time of year, though. The seedlings harden off quickly, in only a couple of days....See MoreNew Windows 10 laptop with Windows 7 OS
Comments (18)Thanks everyone. mikie, that sounds a little complex. If necessary, I'll try it, though. An update... last night after posting here, I decided to try to get those Windows updates redone and out of 'stall' mode. So, what happened was the latest version of Windows 10 updated - it was a long one, took about an hour. After that, my computer is working like I think it should as far as speed with no lags. I haven't used it enough to see if that "HD Intel Graphics Display driver has stopped working and has recovered" popup happens again. So far it hasn't. While doing the Windows 10 update, I could see it was installing new drivers for quite some time, so I'm hoping that will resolve the issue. If not, it looks like I'll have to return it because it's really annoying to continually see this popup whenever I try to navigate the internet. I'll post back to report what happens. Thanks to you all for your help....See More10 ft walls. window placement?
Comments (17)Last I looked congress had not enacted a law on window placement, so you can do what you like. If you put them too close to the floor they will need to have tempered glass, depending on their sizes. This is really between you and your architect, and has a whole lot to do with the style of your house. In some kinds of very formal designs you want all the windows the same size pretty much and everything lined up. In other designs they can be all over the place. In our English Arts and Crafts inspired house the windows are at at least four different distances from the ceilings and three different heights off the floor, none of them align with the doors, Though the door tops do align with a thicker divider between some of the big banks of windows. The windows are sized and placed to optimize the appearance and use of the room, while not looking haphazard from the exterior. This is with 11 ft ceilings. FWIW, I like the way it came out, but then I side with Emerson on the subject of "a foolish consistency...". It works with our design, it wouldn't work in a Federal style house....See MoreAny remedy for 10% openness solar shade being too bright?
Comments (6)What is your exposure? I live in a high rise condo with a view and an eastern exposure. For a period of time in the morning as the sun rises, the glare - and heat - from the sun is unliveable. I didn't want a completely opaque shade as it would have made me feel very boxed in. I don't need the blinds for privacy so after the sun has risen sufficiently by mid to late morning depending on the season, I no longer need the shades down. I had film attached to my windows. Mine isn't super dark so you can't really detect it as a darkness at all. I also thought these would be a help against light ruining my rugs and furniture. When I remodeled I had quite a bit of sun damage from the eastern sun but before I remodeled I had hard to manage ugly blinds and so I would often just keep them open especially since I was generally out of the house early so I didn't have to deal with the glare that much. But now I have the shades and the film and it seems to work well. My air conditioning bills have gone down significantly....See MoreFun2BHere
