I found a few images of banana cream exteriors and it is fairly bright yellow but looks pretty if there are lots of attractive architectural details painted white.

I think it's a pretty yellow but like Lisa says, it's going to depend on the house as to whether it's too bright or not. Do you want a strong yellow or something a little more subtle?

Cats and Leather.

This leather chair (crafted from an old Scotch whisky barrel) lasted for three or five months in a part of the house the cats visited. Right now it resides in my den (which is pet-free for friends with allergies). I need to get it re-covered as a part of my move. (It will live in the pet-free guest bedroom there.)

In our case, leather stopped working when we went on holidays for 2 weeks and left the kitties on their own in the house. I even put a sheet and cushions on top of the couch to preserve it from cat claws. They took everything off and had a dance party.

When we`re home they don`t touch it.

My next door neighbors have a house in a similar yellow with blue trim. It wouldn't be my choice but it's kinda cute and I love these people so it's all good. It's a one-story bungalow-ish home. I agree with the posters who said it depends on the house and its setting.

My cats are hell raisers, but I've pretty much trained them not to scratch the furniture (thank you, Sticky Paws). However, they play Indy 500 and King of the Mountain, with one chair being where they turn around and also where the winner celebrates. Just running across things will exact a heavy toll.

blfenton, your post made me laugh and nod my head in agreement. Cats will find a way to party.

Our house is a standard issue ranch in CA, basic trim, garage in front. The neighborhood is filled with tan, beige, cream, griege, brown, and a couple greenish ones...There is one robin's egg blue house a few blocks over..so we won't be "that" house for the development--maybe just on our street. I want yellow, not cream and the color we've had is a pale, pale yellow that I want to warm and brighten up.

My cats don't have any leather to practice on...but I don't think I will chance it with such a big (at least it is for me!) price tag on the leather sofa. Back to the drawing board.

Wait a minute. How old are these cats? My cats never messed with my furniture. Of course both were over 10 years old.

I think banana cream is too bright, take a look at the historical colors, they're a little muted and softer.

I like it. As Lisaam said, the white trim helps.

Banana Cream beach house

We have a leather sofa upstairs that the cats literally opened up on the sides with their naughty little claws. Even if they don't actively scratch, their back claws will often "catch" when they jump onto leather furniture and mark it. That's what they did to my Stickley Eastwood chair and ottoman -- not to mention the times they puked on it and permanently stained the leather. Penny initially clawed at our new leather pieces a bit, but the Feliway diffuser that we put in the room seems to have quelled her desire to continue doing that. We also have a couple of different scratchers in the room (a vertical post and a horizontal pad), so those options have become more appealing. At least for now.

My concern, more than the leather, is that Penny (the young one, wouldn't you know) has claimed the windowsill on the landing as her own, and by jumping up and down from that spot she is leaving claw marks in the paint.

Our cats don't intentionally scratch the leather chair (they prefer new upholstery!). We keep it covered most of the time but still gets scratches just from jumping on and off. The cardboard scratched is about 2 feet away. It will get marks - a choice to make with cats. I also can't have plants. Even the ASPCA safe plants get eaten and die. But I love my 4 cuties.

I really do think the Feliway diffusers that we have upstairs and downstairs have helped calm our kitties and quelled their desire to scratch. I used the diffusers in the past with my now-departed Camille and she wasn't affected at all, so I was a little reluctant to try again but am glad that I did. They seem to be doing the trick!
