Cabinet refacing and adding more cabinets
Comments (1)Are you sure they're formica? I've only heard of formica countertops. Regardless I think refacing might prove more expensive than it's worth. I don't know if the wood veneer used during a refacing would adhere to the formica. As far as filling in the space, you would have to purchase a cabinet frame. Maybe the cabinet refacers offer them. I obviously don't have any answers to your questions but I have doubts that refacing is the right answer in this case. The basis for my questions is that I recently had my kitchen cabinets refaced. During my research, the consensus was the refacing was an expensive option only to be used if the layout was perfect and the cabinets structurally sound. Which mine were so it was a good choice for me. The main reason to consider was that refacing costs about 50-60% as much as replacement so if you had any issues then you're better off replacing. I would consider having formica (or whatever it is) to be a significant enough issue to warrant replacement. Let me put it this way, refacing my townhouse kitchen cost $7K. Here in northern VA refacing what you're talking about plus the middle cabinet could easily run $1500 - $2000. Plus in a replacement you should be able to re-use your faucets and maybe even your countertop/sinks. Just my two cents....See MoreKitchen Cabinet Refinish/Reface Options
Comments (16)Well, don't be offended but I don't like those cabinet doors at all. They are different, but to me they look very 1970's. Not that I think we have to give in to the whole "dated = must replace" mindset. I'd get new doors, if you like raised panel doors (I do too, although everyone seems to be doing Shaker today, but I think raised panel, like shaker is pretty much timeless) Your backsplash, appliances and counters look good. You could of course go with the dark gel stain, or could paint them, , white or gray would look great with the counters and backsplash (or even white uppers/gray lowers) If you don't like oak, you can get brushing putty to fill in the grain of the cabinet boxes and frames. But that is a lot more work, and if its going to be a rental, I'd just get the oak doors and gel stain or paint it. The visible grain isn't a deal breaker, especially for a rental. Leave the counters and backsplash, it will look fine....See MoreKitchen Cabinet Refacing and find same cabinet door
Comments (4)get fridge panels and trim in a cherry with stain as close as you can-it is achievable....the cabinet itself can be a void door cabinet and use it as a cubbyhole for baskets/a piece of pottery/etc. the interior in cherry and with stain selection close, and items resting inside makes any slight difference irrelevant. Not worth monkeying around any more than that. The side panels and trim are the more relevant things as your fridge is now chosen and will be a long term thing. that will be a nice look when fridge is encased....See Morekitchen cabinet refacing -thermofoil doors?
Comments (4)If you are thinking of replacing countertops, then getting RTA (Ready to assemble cabinets) is an economical solution. Get painted cabinets with wood or solid MDF doors. Try local cabinet companies. They often will assemble for you. They are approximately 35% less than Lowes & Home Depot. Get extra touch up paint to do touch ups. The factory painted cabinets finish is more durable then a paint job. That's what my rental clients use....See Moresheloveslayouts
