Couldn't tell you about azaeleas since I don't know if they respond the way roses do, but about the roses, they are just suffering from a little transplant shock. Just pluck off and destroy the yellow leaves and wait for about a month or so to see what the roses do. By the way, I wasn't clear if you meant the roses are NOW planted in containers or in the ground. Either way, they need good drainage (and plenty of sun) or they will get yellow leaves that fall off. If your drainage is good, then it may be that you are watering them too much--or if they are in containers, that they are setting on trays that retain the water, which is too much for the plants. Other things can cause yellowing leaves also--like under-watering! But if you are like most new rose owners, you are more likely over-doing the care and watering too much as a result. But you will have to determine whether your soil is moist or very dry. I still think it is mostly transplant shock. Let us know how it's going in about a month--OK? Kate

I've found that the early potted roses do this more for me. I used to work for a rose grower; they are pretty heavily fed in order to get them to produce by mothers day, which is the official start of rose season here (or used to be)... I've noticed that these heavily fed roses seem to go through withdrawal, since the potassium (potash IIRC) & nitrogen were stopped. For the last 2 years I've been negligent in feeding my roses. Usually, I have a mix, that is not thrown on top of the soil, I dig a trench around the rose. All amounts vary due to rose size. Epsome salt (1c) Rose tone (1 1/2 c IIRC) Alfalfa meal (1 c) Potash (1/4c) Kelp (1/4 c) I used to also use a time release, although it's been too long for me to remember which one it was. I'm lucky enough to have an agricultural store near me, I tell him what I need (time release for roses) he gives me what he does. I would water it in, let it sit, then put the dirt back. The next day I use Miracle Grow - 1st hitting the foliage, then I will go back and water in the ground. Since I have many gardens, I can go through a lot of Miracle Grow. There are times that I also used fish emulsion mixed with a "B" liquid by Schultz.

Aaron, Rose of Sharon will complain for a few weeks when you transplant them at all. That's just what they do. They will almost always bounce back after 2 weeks and start looking better. Water your shrubs generously after transplanting for at least a week. They need it, you are moving them in the heat and they need the extra moisture to get themselves situated in their new spot. Remember, they are not established for 3 years after you uproot them and move them around. So make sure for the next 3 eyars you keep and eye on the watering situation. Mulch is your friend.
