Deororize wall to wall carpeting
Comments (9)Thanks all. I can't smell any mold, but my wife says she can. Then too, she'd like new carpeting. We replaced the living room wall to wall about 6 years ago, there was no mold there, as far as I can remember, we replaced because it was showing the wear of 15+ years of use. We don't have a family room, so the living room gets lived in, it is the family room. I'd wonder if good old baking soda would leave a white residue? The subject bedroom carpet is a dark green color. I did a Bissell water-based cleaning, and also cleaned and painted a very large walk-in closet. This resulted in the removal of three large plastic garbage of cloths being taken to the used clothing drop...this too may help freshen things up. We'll see. I have the cheapest Bissell rug shampoo unit. It has only a fixed brush, sprays the water/cleaner and sucks it up. It does get a lot of dirt out, this can be seen in the dump water that is sucked up. I like it a lot and I am thinking I may buy one of the upper priced modes with power driven brushes and heated water/steam. Still, if there is mold in a carpet it seems a bad strategy to go and push water/steam into the fibers. Of course if there is a de-odorizer that has a mold killing chemical, that could help. I don't see any such claims on the Bissell cleaning solution (concentrate)....See MoreWall to Wall Carpet!
Comments (46)If it's installed and pampered throughout its life, I have found there is nothing better than wall to wall or nearly wall to wall carpet. When the installers took up my mother's beautiful ten plus years Mohawk pile a few years ago to reinstall a new pattern--we found a clean pad and floor underneath. The installer took care in removing it because he wanted to reinstall it in his daughter's new apartment! Yes, my mother vacuumed her carpet within an inch of its life; however, for us it was worth it. Among other activities--we play games on the carpet, cut out dress patterns, play with the kiddos, and just generally loll around on it while watching TV. Love it. I enjoy hardwood and tile too--in the dining room, kitchen and bathroom, but love my carpet in those rooms where the floors beg to be sat and lain upon, and who whistle their happy little tune to bare feet throughout every season....See Morehow do people live with beige carpet and general carpet advice
Comments (46)Eleven years ago I replaced the cheap beige carpet in our house with beautiful Karastan wall-to-wall beige carpet. We have a lot of kids and back in 2004 we still had toddlers. I don't regret the carpets, at that point it was hard to know what type of hardwood to put down on a concrete slab, it seems that engineered hardwoods were an emerging product and solid hardwood planks were not recommended for slab foundations. There were moisture transfer issues that seemed to make hardwood floors a risky proposition back then. Our carpet looks exactly like the close-up sample that AuntJen posted. It looked to me like beautiful sand, the quality is excellent. We paid a fair sum of money for it in part because it did not off-gas, and we installed rubber padding (instead of the compressed foam) which helped prevent goat trails. Now we have a dog who occassionally barfs. So our carpet is stained. And worn out. Having a Dyson vacuum had made all the difference in keeping it looking good when we vacuumed daily, our carpet looked fabulous. Wish we had a Roomba. It's a frieze and I love it. I'd love hardwood floor more, but do not regret the carpeting. My kids played on the floor until five years ago, and the carpet kept the house a little quieter and allowed them to lay on the floor and play anywhere. I certainly miss those days....See MoreWall to Wall Carpeting -Color Recommendations Please :)
Comments (1)It's not so much the color of carpet as the material and cleaning method you use to keep a carpet looking nice. The easiest cleaning for foot traffic and spills I've found is nylon carpet. I have poly in the bedrooms and nylon in the rest of the house. Nylon cleans better hands down. I just use warm water for spot cleaning. For whole carpet cleaning I just use hot water with vinegar. Soap or detergent attracts dirt having to clean carpets sooner than you have to. Carpet cleaning companies like to use cleaner so they get to come back often. Carpets with a multi thread color berber appears to hide more....See MoreUser
