How does one go about contacting someone privately?

I know things have changed since Houzz took over GW, and do remember one could click somewhere, to let GW send a contact letter from someone. Does this still apply, somewhere, and can one "talk" to someone independently of Houzz? Any info appreciated

I am not sure myself, but when I you click on someone's id/icon in a post it should take you to his site. That person has to have it to activate messages to receive them. I set mine up to receive and when I click on my own name then message is there. Try clicking on my flower/id and see if you are able to message me there.

Shaddy when I clicked on emma's name the next page at the top right showed "follow" and "message". Clicking on message and it looks like a private message can be sent. Clicking on your name does not show "message" only "follow". Emma's correct looks like messages needs to be activated.

YES. However it is sort of theroputic in a way. I am down there alone, the tv on, all the trouble of the upstairs world gone away.... I may just cover that sill XPS w/drywall too...HD had scraps there were pretty much giving away..I may just pick them up and stick 'em up there what the heck I came this far...I can not do any major work down there for a while (new heatpump being installed)...I need an excuse to stay down there!

I am also a bit hesitant to buy things or sell things to strangers, although I did sell a futon on CL, but it was a nice lady and she was by herself, so I figured I could take her if I had to!! But, I'm more hesitant to sell a car through the paper than furniture. It really makes me nervous to have someone come and drive my car around - I don't want to really go with them, and I'm afraid they'll drive off with it or wreck it. My husband is not at home regularly in the evenings or on weekends, so we just trade in the car when we need a new one. I feel bad in a way because I know we could get more for it by selling it ourselves.

POV-point of view. OP never suggested surprising this guy by appearing on his doorstep; she just wants to let him know that bygones are bygones & that she wishes him well. I wouldn't have liked for my husband or boyfriend to talk about another woman as the 'love of his life', but that's hardly the woman's fault; it's entirely the doing of husband! & since he sent her packing when she showed up, my guess is that he either was remembering the past through rose-colored glasses, or he was playing a mind game with you. Mind games are never nice, & you definitely owe your life partner more respect than to play them. One good result here is that, if he ever again in this life starts reminiscing about the 'love of his life', you can fix him with a baleful stare & tell him to put a sock in it!

Could it be her clothing? Sometimes if people wear clothing multiple times between washing it will start stinking badly. The problem is that usually the person wearing the clothing has become immune to the smell because of proximity. I know I've had that happen to me with sweaters and such in the winter that I don't always launder between uses. I don't notice a smell until I come back to it after a break and then I wonder how long I was wandering around smelly, lol. I'm more inclined to think that because, as carla mentioned, if she's been swimming every day she shouldn't smell that bad unless she's putting dirty clothes back on. If she's in an apartment or another place without washers and dryers in the home, it's really easy to get more lax about laundry hygiene because it's a pain to haul it to the laundromat or the coin washers in the basement.

I think that in order for you to send a message to a given member, that member has to have set their privacy to allow it: https://www.houzz.com/settingsAdvanced

Mine is set to receive messages only from members I follow.

I don't remember if that was the default or if I changed it.

I tried to do some changing, got message error, so will wait now, I see nothing except to allow members to contact me, and even checking that, nothing happens, at least it didn't at this time. Will try and check in later. thanks folks, maybe cuz I am tired been gone all day, can't sleep, too darn tired, but I did message emma back, cuz her site showed I could. Still don't see where she clicked to arrange that.

In the box that chuggerguy placed in his post there is the drop down arrow... clicking on that shows three choices in your advanced settings. The third choice is "To allow anyone to message me". Doesn't necessarily have to be a follower.
