how would you tell someone about their poor hygiene?

I have a niece that is 24 years old. She weighs-I am guessing - close to 300 lbs. (I know!! but one issue at a time...)

She lives alone and does not have a job.

She smells.

Bad.

Several of us have told her mother she needs to talk to her but she just rolls her eyes and says she doesn't know what to do...**big sigh**

My niece is super sensitive. She will cry at the slightest criticism. She has always been that way since she was little.

As long as she stinks, she will never get a job.

She goes to the gym everyday to swim. I was told they put up new, bigger signs in the locker room that say you MUST shower before swimming. A family friend that swims with her thinks it is directed towards her.

I feel strongly someone needs to talk to her. I dont want it to be her grandmother (my mom). She has threatened to do it, but somewhere over the last 10 years she has lost her ability to be compassionately tactful. I want someone to address it before that happens.

I am scared that the wrong advice would make her retreat into a reclusive or self destuctive attitude.

SOOOO,

Any words of advice on how to approach? (even if it's not me that does it!)
