Technically OK to mix and match shower fixture brands?
Comments (8)The problem is that the "pretty" has to match the "utilitarian". THe trim has to match the valves inside the wall or it won't work correctly. There's nothing wrong with you using a X brand toilet, Y brand sink, and Z brand lavatory faucet (if you like how they match). Those come complete with the needed accessories to install them. Your tub and shower faucets aren't ordered that way. When you order your pretty stuff, you have to order the right valve for behind the wall that the pretty stuff works with. And, it's not the easiest thing in the world to understand how to design a shower with multiple sprays and valves. You really have to know what you're doing to not order the wrong thing and get stuck with not being able to return a $600 Roman tub faucet with side spray that you got the wrong valve for. You just wiped out any bargain hunts right there. Part of what you pay a professional for is the knowledge he brings to the job. Let him design the showers and tubs to your specification and then let him order what is needed. You may end up paying a little more, but then you also have the actual install warrantied. If you provide the fixtures, you are the one that deals with the warranty issues. If that Moen shower valve starts leaking behind the wall, if the plumber supplied it, he's there fixing it. If you supplied it, he might be there fixing it, but it's you that's paying the labor to fix it (and the ripped out tile if you don't have an access panel) and you that has to send the defective part back to the manufacturer and wait on a new part to be installed....See MoreWasher/Dryer - Same brands or mix-match?
Comments (7)Thanks Mara. That was helpful. I have added one Maytag to my potential list. @Housefairy - I am skeptical about Samsung for washer/dryer but will surely check out what they have I looked at prices of similar models at Nebraska Furniture Mart and Sears. NFM has better deals currently and have better reviews from friends, peers about a very good overall buying experience from NFM. I did not see NFM carrying any samsungs but will double check. Here are the models that I am considering. Prices in brackets Whirlpool WFW8300SW (675) Amana - NFW7200TW (580) Bosch WFMC2201UC(S) (725) GE WCVH6800JWW (714) WBVH5300KWW (684) Maytag MAH2400AWW (675) If any of you has any experience using any of these models please let me know. Comments (13)I'll say what I always say even though I know some people disagree. It's a matter of price point. If you have a modest home, then I think all of the appliances should be the same brand. It looks better if the appliances appear as a package instead of a mish mash of random things which can further cheapen the home. If you have a higher price point home and you're going to get high end, specialty brand appliances, then they can be different. But either way, I would stick with stainless for a classic look that will never go out of style and so that all of the appliances are the same finish....See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
