moths in garlic
Comments (0)My garlic has been curing in the barn for several weeks and today I trimmed and bagged it. The dried foliage was full of what look like pantry moths. We have been having a problem with pantry moths in the house and I'm worried that if I bring the garlic inside it will 1) get infested/destroyed by the moths and 2) make the moth problem worse in the house. Does anyone know if pantry-type moths will infest garlic bulbs (worms feed on the fresh garlic)? If so I'm tempted to freeze the bulbs for storage but read that it ruins the flavor....See MorePantry moths, eewwww!
Comments (3)The plastic containers won't do it. Heavy duty hard plastic with screw tight lids might work, and the same for glass. A friend of mine had a major pantry infestation and we found the larvae in her peanut butter!!!! With the lid on tight. Place your teas in a zip lock bag and observe for signs of the adults or larvae. Personally, I think that tea would not be safe. Clean out any pet food, bird seed, spices, even potpourri and craft supplies, pine cones, etc. Do a major cleaning to get rid of the little cocoons that you will find in the nooks and crannies of the house...and not just in the kitchen! I found an infestation in my bedroom closet, where I kept a couple of (closed and not used) bags of that fancy potpourri that had been given me. I had been planning on 're-gifting', lol!!! I've heard good things about pantry pest traps (non chemical), and suggest you investigate them. Once you get rid of the adults, freeze food items for a few days before introducing them back into the pantry. And storage in the 'fridge is a good idea, too....See MoreGetting rid of pantry moths - Any success stories? ((Sigh))
Comments (44)Beware!!! i got those by buying food in walmart .you can get them enywhere you buy food expecially pet food. check packages before purchacing . if you see web or larve dont buy it. I have eliminated successfully the indian moth . by trowing away every open and anything that showed sign of contamination . sprayed interior out and toop of my cabinet with flying incest killer . then 24 hour later i cleaned every single cabinet with bleach and dish soap. then placed in containers the good food and wiped clean cans with alcohol. then 3 days later placed everything back in the cabinets and placed a lavender leaf in cabinet also you can use moht balls to repel them. after that even if you see 3 or 4 flying around. kill them for peace of mind but after they dont find more food they will not lay eggs cause larva will starve to death....See MorePantry moths
Comments (7)We had periodic outbursts of these annoying pests. We finally emptied the entire pantry, threw out anything that had even the suggestion of being nutrition for them -- which includes the cardboard box glue! -- and put EVERYTHING that wasn't a canned good or bottle into a sealed plastic box (tupperware-like, spent a small fortune). Then the pantry was scrubbed down very thoroughly. We've been pretty good about keeping up with it (putting groceries away into the containers) and haven't had any other outbreaks. They do sell little glue tents for catching them, but they were not effective in stopping them. Good luck with your battle! ~Amy...See Morerobo (z6a)
