Everyday dishes to use in microwave
Comments (9)I don't attempt to nuke with dishes in the microwave as they all seem to get hot -- even my Corning/Pyrex which I know is microwave safe. I have a few plates, dishes and bowls that were designed specifically for the microwave which I use to reheat foods that aren't being heated in their storage containers. I have some clear glass bowls which don't seem to get hot that I use for nuking a lot of stuff -- soups, frozen fruit etc. None of this stuff is particularly attractive so I just think of it as another form of cookware used for the microwave. I have some mugs of the new Fiesta line which is technically microwave safe and they get very hot so I have always assumed that all china/porcelein etc. will get hot and I haven't attempted to heat on any dish that I actually like and want to keep around for awhile :)...See MoreEveryday dishes - porcelain, bone china or Corelle
Comments (67)Excited to share that after much deliberation, GW thread reading, and sale price watching, my new everyday dishes have arrived. I decided to go with bone china, in the hopes that they would prove chip resistant, and grey cutlery mark resistant. I am so sick of those gray lines. I was also inspired that my two sets of pfaltzgraff dishes combined were down to 5 plates and 3 bowls. Comments from the family peanut gallery like 'why dont we ever have plates' pushed me to decision making 'code red'. I got a great deal at Macy's with a buy 1, get one place setting offer. I got 5 place settings of Lenox, Tin Can Alley 4 and five of Tin Can Alley 7. It also seriously considered Wedgewood Nantucket Basket but it is made in China and the Lenox is made in the US- clincher! The in-store price was less than the on-line price, and in-store still honored the bogo. Plus I got my 15% of macy's card discount. All told the 10 4 piece place settings delivered to my house came in at less than $350- I thought that was awesome. Now I can serve Thanksgiving in style! Last night we used the new dishes at dinner and it was lovely. The thinness of the china is a delight after heavy stoneware. It looks so pretty, even when dirty and loaded in the dishwasher. Thanks GW for inspiring, and educating....See More"Hand wash only" for everyday dishes, really?
Comments (19)weissman: funny! Martha has help. (Most of) the rest of us have to do our own dishes. I agree that's ridiculous that those dishes are hand wash only, and honestly I think the store where you bought them should have given you the heads up. There are many items I decided not to buy from Pampered Chef because they're hand wash only. Sorry, but I don't feel "pampered" when my hands are in rubber gloves and hot water. (Also, I put almost everything in the DW, including my china and Waterford crystal, that have gold rims on them. Never had a problem.) I'm sure that's disappointing, as it's more than just the colors you need to make work: the dishes have to fit nicely in the DW, bowls and cups should stack nicely when put away, etc. When you find a set that you like, I'd buy just one or two sets and live with it for a few days to see how you like using it. I did that with new flatware to make sure we liked it before buying a dozen place settings....See MoreBeautiful everyday dishes on TV show Royal Pains
Comments (4)Cat mom - I love the show too! Jayce3 - The Sophie Conran for Portmeirion are beautiful. I am not sure they are the same dishes, but they are beautiful and a real contender. Which color do you have? I love the celadon color, but so many people advocate serving food on white dishes. I might do a mix of white and celadon, especially since there are so many more serving pieces available in white. Dianalo - That is a good idea. I had thought about trying to e-mail the show to ask, but wasn't sure who to contact. I actually don't have a FB account....See MoreUser
