Which Roses Do You Love But Also Hate
Comments (30)Mermaid: horrible thorns (for several years, I had a knot on my head where one fishhooked me) grows like kudzu *& never stops growing* gets so heavy that it breaks down any structure that you build to support it lots of deadwood in the center, but it can't be pruned without a flamethrower huge beautiful single sulphur flowers with big gold stamens luscious & powerful honey fragrance bees love it great nesting site for cardinals (I once had to rescue the neighbor's cat from Mermaid) evergreen Tradescant: grows like it might be the offspring of an Etch-a-Sketch thorny luscious red/burgundy/black roses Alistair Stella Gray: brittle canes thorny won't lose its old flowers even when they turn the color of old kleenex beautiful flowers in shades of apricot to yellow to ivory smells like heaven...See MoreDecison to disengage roses from soil
Comments (56)Several years ago good friends gave away all of their HTs to the city gardens. They kept one Abe Darby, One Mme. Plant it here and their Minis. The minis are in raised beds with automatic watering and an easy fertilizing attachment. The soil after so many years is so rich it takes minimal care. They have had fun trying out wierd stuff, pineapple lillies (he has a small greenhouse,) a whole bed of Monarda, huge sunflowers, what ever tickles their fancy. They have stopped giving an annual tour of their gardens. For myself, when RRD struck last year, and having seen other gardens go down in ruin, I decided that I would branch out my interest keeping in mind that I am no spring chicken anymore. I bought a whole bunch of weird no care OP lilies, Chinese Tree Peonies (shaded blooms lasts a week if you are lucky and water me and I will die - I promise,) and other easy care stuff. I have been given permission this year from the Troll (DW) to buy some more roses if I want, as we had a late frost. I am going to replace French Lace even though it is a major pain to keep alive in our zone, a damask Dr. Henry Najat likes that I forgot the name of--- Belle something or other, and perhaps an other Alba. I am going to pass on MIP even though she won several awards at shows. Perhaps I won't. Something to kick around over the long winter. Getting old is not for sissies. What ever you decide please don't plant the EVIL Mr. GRASS! It has to be mowed, fertilized, watered, and it hides snakes. Comments (18)For years my mother was toxic i allowed her to see my son but i set boundries because she didnt like my spouse .. she would bad mouth both of us in front or to the child.. the first time i warned her the second i pulled my son away from her for 9 months . The battle still went on between the adults but my son was spared ... Then after one summer visitation my son was 9 he annouced grama had told him some stories about me (as we were picking him up from the airport) i thought oh some cute childhood story... Nope all about how i was a liar when i was younger and calling child services on her... When i called and confronted her all she could say was it was history my child needed to know .. i screamed at her like never before it took two years before we spoke again .. she has sinced changed my spouse she hated died and i am remarried with a toddler.. the point is it took all that to happened before she dropped her grudge against me and today she sings praises to me and about me to my children .. set boundries is the bottom line ... Mom you may not like me and we have our problems but if you wish to see my children you must 1. Set up advanced timing for cheaper flights and i cant afford the whole ticket if at all. 2. If you cant drop the grudge for my children and mines sanity your contact will be limited.3. Explain to her the cycle needs to be broken and shes a major player in that aspect and she may try to push the limits... Set boundries for yourself, get the respect you deserve. My mom recently paid for a trip to alaska for the whole family and proudly annouced she had assumed for so long i was a different person that it would be nice to get to know me. And we have forgiven each other. Then after setting the boundries no matter how you feel keep the contact short and brief and ignore any confortational remarks no matter how upset you get with her keep it short and sweet till she abides by the boundries you have set. Hope this helps! Let me know....See MoreDo songs get to you emotionally?
Comments (25)Oh yes, music can bring me to tears easily, especially a magnificent talent like Andrea Bocelli or Kiri TeKanawa. It can also bring you right back to the moment in time that reminds you of a far gone time. Memories of parents, siblings, boyfriends, pets, our kids. There are so many great artists in all our pasts and so many wonderful sounds. It's funny how we take it so for granted but imagine not being able to hear music, how sad that must be for some....See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
