Getting rid of electrical fire smell
Comments (2)I had a lamp blow out and start a fire in my sofa (a workman tipped the lamp on its side and it was leaning against the back of a sofa. The heat of the bulb singed the fabric). So I know how bad that smell is. There is no cover up that works. You will have to open a window. Sorry to give you bad news. At least wait till a day with no precipitation....See Moregetting rid of smoke smell in an apartment
Comments (3)I am not certain of this for tobacco, but vinegar is pretty remarkable. If I happen to burn something on the stove or burn toast, I soak a rag with vinegar and swing it around, and it gets rid of the smell. It may smell like vinegar for a little while...but it will go away. I also came across a product at Home Depot (and Sam's Club) called OdoBan. that may work. We have used it in our car to get rid of fishy smells. If your daughter has carpets, they may need to be professionally cleaned. Best of luck, and please let us know what works....See MoreGetting Rid of Smoke Smell
Comments (2)You could always try setting some apple cider vinegar out in dishes. We had skunk smell that permeated the whole house from dogs who were let in after they had gotten a direct hit. The house was awful. We didn't know what we were going to do until someone told us to boil some vinegar on the stove and also place dishes of vinegar around the house. The house then smelled like vinegar which wasn't a whole lot better than the skunk but when the vinegar smell went away, so did the skunk smell. I would imagine that the shades may have the smoke smell in them. I would try wiping them down with a vinegar/water solution. I would also wipe all the woodwork. Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be!...See MoreHow do I get rid of smoke odors?
Comments (13)I don't know if it's still available, but I've seen Kilz paint. It has the sealer and the paint mixed together. If you want to try cleaning before painting, try TSP. It's far more effective than the combination of things you mentioned. BTW-I don't think an unremovable, hard-wired smoke detector exists. Even hard wired detectors require batteries in case of an electrical outage. The detector must be removed for battery replacement. I live in an area with a large population of young renters. My city just adopted an ordinance requiring hard wired detectors in all rentals. It was quite controversial, and I learned a lot about smoke detectors in the local reports about the ordinance. People will find a way to remove them. Sounds stupid, but it happens....See MoreLinda
