Help me pick an island color :)
Comments (7)I prefer the darker swatches rather than the light blue greys, but it really depends on the light in your kitchen. And it really is personal preference too. I've just always liked darker blues or greener light greys. For some reason, they seem to have more life and dimension (to me) than blue greys. Full disclosure, we have two colours in our kitchen - one being very dark and we also had the exterior of our house painted blue grey for many years and I just got really sick of it. The three colours you posted all look the same on my monitor. Hale navy is the only colour I know and I do like it, but just can't see the others. Cpartist has good advice. Also, try to think thru what other elements you are going to include - what colour hardware, wall paint, etc. By doing the island a specific colour, you are going to be locking yourself into a certain decor path (this isn't a bad thing, but should be planned for)....See MoreKitchen update #2, help me pick the island color

Comments (5)depends on stain shade of floor. Brown can be reddish/ orangeish/ or grayish.... as well, light medium and dark w regard to the intensity. And your lighting will make a difference too. [natural light/or lack...and room lighting] . some woods with smooth texture and medium to dark stain can be an alternative to the expense of paint...and the upkeep of paint also. Picture cherry with a medium to dark stain will over time have an even look without the grain of oak if that's your goal. Birch and alder with darker stains will be similar in even smooth texture. Brown is rich and warm and there are different ways to achieve the smooth brown painted look.....[before you cement your decision. ]...See MoreNeed help picking cohesive whole house colors and kitchen colors
Comments (3)Before any and all..........address the kitchen layout and function. I doubt you can open the fridge fully, the desk should go, I think you do not want a microwave over the range. .........All these, including a more built in look for the fridge, should come before tops of any variety. Frankly, it appears the kitchen is too small for the island within it. Start with clearances, layout etc, before the bells and whistles...See MoreRachel (Zone 7A + wind)
