Face Book question

I was just looking at my page and I see I have 18 followers. I only know about 4 of them. How can I get rid of these lurkers?

I think I found it, it was showing everyone, I have it set to friends now. Thanks

I just checked my Houzz page and noticed that I am being followed. How do I stop that from happening.

JoAnn, you need to check your privacy settings. If you make sure that only folks with whom you are Facebook friends can see your stuff, then you won't have strangers "following you."

Hi Sue-va It's hard to keep up to date with Facebook, they're always changing things. A couple tips, On your Facebook page, clicking the word Facebook (at the top, left) or Home(top, right)will open up your news feed,it is the page with ALL the "news" posted by your friends. Clicking on your name (top, right)will bring up your timeline which has just the stuff you've posted and posts made directly to you from your friends. If you're interested the link below gives a lot of good information on Facebook, as well as tips for setting up the privacy controls account. They changed it recently so that if you just hit enter (return), it submits your comment. (So if you want to make a new paragraph instead of submitting, I think you have to hit shift+enter.)

Hi Sandie, I used to post on the KT a long time ago. I do not think you got an adequate answer about Facebook, First have your child open their page, scroll to the bottom banner at the end of the page. It will tell you about Privacy and there is Help link there, click . In Help screen, type how to block people. It will come up with specific directions. Please read their privacy policy also at the bottom banner and how to achieve what you want. To the right top of the FB screen, there is a lock symbol, open and set the settings to friends only and any other settings to limit contact. On chat make sure it is set for friends only. I wouild also look at your child's friend list and make sure they are really known, not just friended because of a request. Hope this helps.

I had to go and check that I'm not following blfenton, I was not :-)

It was my understanding that you can only send private messages to those that are following you.

LOL PK. Yea, I'm quite boring so not sure why anyone would want to do that anyway. I don't follow anyone. Maybe that makes me anti-social.

Anyone can message anyone, if they have their personal settings set to allow that. Then you get an email saying that you have a message in Houzz.

Following doesn't mean anything, that I can see. I have 10 followers, and I'm following 3, but I don't know what it does. I checked too, to see if I was following you, Blfenton :-)

PK, I think you can send private messages only to your friends. If you send one to a non-friend, it'll land in their Other folder, where people rarely (if ever) look. In fact, my Other folder isn't even visible anymore. I'm not sure where FB has stashed it.

Here at houzz, Originally when it first changed over, we did have to be following the person to be able to message each other. Then later they changed it to the way it is now. I have some following me and I have some I am following, I know a few were because they wanted to message so we had to follow each other. So that could be why. It would not bother me at all here. I think it would mean we have some of the same likes etc.

ravencajun - I had forgotten that in order to message someone you had to follow them as well. I never even message anyone. MMM I really am anti-social. It's good to have your take on the situation. Thanks for commenting.

Sorry JoAnn, I answered blfenton's question because here on Houzz, I
have clicked to follow many folks and just didn't remember if I had
followed her/him. I felt a bit guilty because I could have been someone
creating anxiety to blfenton.

I'm pretty sure that
other than Sylvia, I have no crossover friends with Facebook, so felt no
guilt or compulsion to speak up about your Facebook follower.

On Facebook, you control who can follow you and see who is currently following you.

You set your privacy settings to match your comfort level.

If you click the down pointing arrow in the blue Facebook toolbar, choose Settings.

If you choose Followers, you can see who is following you.

If you wish to edit your privacy settings, choose Privacy from the left sidebar.

You can see who sees your stuff, who can look you up and who can contact you.

This is also where you make changes to only allow those that you are comfortable with 'seeing your stuff'. Obviously if someone cannot see your stuff (posts), they cannot follow you.

JoAnn - that was my fault and I apologize. I should have noted OT. I had been wondering about followers on Houzz and just tagged onto your question about Facebook. It was bad form on my part. However, I did check followers on facebook and I don't have any so I did appreciate that reminder

Hmm, just checked mine and it is set to friends only and said by default, your friends are following you.

Went I was looking at the friends list It said how many followers I have,I clicked on it, it said 19, and it had their pictures there. I only recognized 4. Many of the 19 were foreign men. But then I know I have more followers that were not listed.

How do I block someone?

To block someone:
1. Click at the top right of any Facebook page.
2. Click How do I stop someone from bothering me?
3. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to block and click Block.
4. If you entered a name, select the specific person you want to block from the list that appears.
People will not be notified when you block them.

If you can't find someone using this method, try going to the person's profile and selecting Block from the menu on their cover photo.

If
you still can't find the person you want to block, it's possible that
this person no longer uses Facebook or has restricted their privacy
settings. Keep in mind that you can always control the audience of stuff you share.
