I use one of my two matching antique wing chairs regularly as a dining chair. Here's a really old photo preparing to host thanksgiving on our first year after the whole house reno. You can see that I brought the other wing chair from the LR to anchor the far end of the DR and add more seating. My 8 y.o. son loves to sit on the near end in that chair. He sits up on his leg though to get higher on the chair, but he still looks too low. I sometimes sit there during dinner parties and find it uncomfortably low. Also, I can't sit upright easily as the chair is so deep I can't sit against the chair back. I try not to place guests there because of this. I love the look of wings in a DR and only keep the wing there out of necessity. I don't really have enough room in my FR or LR for them after we reconfigured the rooms during the reno. Plus, I don't have enough dining chairs so this arrangement allows me to temporarily keep the wing chairs until I find a couple more matching antique dining chairs.

We have two vintage fibreglass ones with arms. No one ever sits in them: they're a bit rigid and too "upright" - no give as pal said, also beware as the arms don't fit under my dining table which has a 3" apron all around, so it's a good idea to look at clearances, I think I would prefer armless. I definitely prefer the Eiffel base as pictured: mine have the plain aluminum H legs (vintage) and there's not a lot of wow factor to the legs. Hope you got it, did't read all comments (37) here but that chair is a definite go. It was designed c. 1958 and that it's very still popular, should say a lot. In Design Within Reach lists for around $2450 last I saw that may say something too. Plus it should last forever. And be out-of-this-world comfortable from the start. He - its designer, Charles Eames, along with designer wife Ray to be fair, pioneered ergonomics. Notice the black and aluminums airport chairs you've seen all your life; same mfr, same designer. they.hold up If you get a knock off, make sure it's exact, not just the concept but in welded steel and polyester The steel welds can break and will render a bulky foot piece in any case, it's tat elegant star base that carries a lot of the visual appeal and always will. And poly can make you sweat.

you want an aniline dyed leather where the color goes all the way through, not where just the surface is dyed. we have cats and the very minor surface scratches they have made show an ugly white. if the leather were aniline dyed and the black color went all the way through, it would just add "character" and not show a different color and look tacky. It was the sales rep who recommended that because the chair was for home use I didn't need to spend the extra money for a top grade leather. I am distressed that I followed that bad advice because I usually opt for quality and longevity.
