Cherry Fruit Flies

Hi all,

I lost 10-20 percent of my Evans, Carmine Jewel and Romeo this season. The culprit: a small white larvae in the fruit. Very difficult to spot until you process or cut the fruit open. It looks like this may be the Cherry fruit fly but I cant tell. this is the third season for cherries here and the first occurrence. I have similar occurrence with the red currants and this may be the source as they were planted last year and were heavily infected this season.

My question is this: what is my best bet for dealing with this pest? I believe the fruit fly lays eggs in the fruit thru the fruiting season so I am thinking that covering the trees with a fine mesh fabric to keep out the adult flies is my best bet. For those that have had similar issues please feel free to comment. To U of S that says this is free of any pests....HA!
