Hi y'all...and what do I do with this crazy thing?
Comments (13)Hi Mike, nice to meet some other Okie plumie lovers! Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. Somehow I just knew y'all were going to tell me to cut it into pieces. Yikes, I'm scared-lol. Should I try to make the cuts and root it now or should I do as Moonie suggests and wait until spring? I have to admit, I did go to Southwoods and buy another plumie last week. A miniature Divine this time. Didn't want to take the chance of growing another monster-lol. I've also been eyeballing a Scentsational in full bloom. It smells good enough to eat but I'm not ready to spend $80 on a plumie. I went back today just to smell it and talk myself out of it for the 3rd time. I'd love to have the name of any local nursery that sells plumies! Moonie, thanks for the advice ! I appreciate getting help from plumeria growers with more experience and know-how than I have....See MoreDo your neighbors think you are a little crazy with tropicals
Comments (9)Well,even though this is California I'm in NoCal,so the tropical look varies from not- at -all in upscale areas,to quite subtropical looking in minority neighborhoods where rampant vines, palms, succulents and flowering tropical tree are common..just spotted a huge Chayote vine the other day. I have a very tropical looking property-guess where I live. The response I get ranges from punks who yell, G** it up!,but by far, most teenagers walk by and tell me "cool yard"..thumbs up. What they smile about is when I'm out there with the camera..NOBODY takes photos of their yards like I do around here-lol..then they might also smile as I do my "the Arteest" of standing there staring at my yard arranging and re-arranging plant material in my head. If you play chess you get the idea. After these many years they don't even seem to mind my taking the occasional photo of their yard's..I think when I see Tree Euphorbias,King palms, other not common subtropicals in those yards I might have been a smidgeon of influence....See MoreWhat do you do when your next door neighbor's teen is trouble?
Comments (71)Sadly, he can probably get off more easily than any of us would like to think. I don't know, but the realist in me says find a way to move. You can't depend on the neighbor's being incarcerated to go forward with a normal life. It sounds like your neighbor's "crew" still assembles despite his absence. If he and his friends disappear, is there potential for a replacement problem group taking up "residence" in your immediate vicinity. Could you have friends over for an impromptu summer bbq? It seems as though you can't plan anything outdoors so long as your neighbor's son & his friends are around. I can see this getting worse first before/rather than better. Things are definitely not in your favor with regard to the current real estate market, or for that matter, the economy in general. However, when it gets to the point that your kids can't safely go outside to play on a nice day, and you are living in daily fear, is it really worth your sanity and that of everyone in your family? I am a fighter as well as a total optimist. Before reading about your situation, I would have adamantly defended my right to live in my home. I would not allow the behavior of another make me move from a home I created. However, under your circumstance, I would definitely consider all options, moving being one of them. Is there a reasonable possibility that your neighborhood will get progressively worse, or is this an isolated thing within a 10 block radius of your home? If I were to take a walk in your neighborhood, would the gang presence be obvious to me? What is the the town like overall? It may be a strategic move to get out of this neighborhood now before it becomes reputed for its higher potential for crime? Also, I can't remember if you mentioned having any pets. If you do, they need protection from this situation as well. I wish I felt more optimistic about this getting better for your family. You and your DH are the only two people who can gauge what your home life will be going forward if you do stay in your current home. Also, I don't know the ages of your children and how "at risk" they are being next door to this kid and his friends....See MoreWhat crazy things have appliance salesmen (or your KD) told you ?
Comments (53)How I remember the frustrations of my appliance research! My favourite was when I wanted to see a particular Electrolux fridge and freezer. I had seen Electrolux ICON appliances at a well-known Canadian retailerÂs flagship store in Toronto so I went there to see if they had the models I was interested in. Not finding them, I asked a salesman for help. Oh, he tells me, Electrolux doesnÂt make appliances. Odd, I say, since you have some Electrolux cooktops right over there. Oh no, he says, those are ICON. Yes, I say, Electrolux ICON Â it says so right on them. So he proceeds to scour his Electrolux materials for information about the fridge and freezer, with no success. Finally I tell him I will email him the model numbers and perhaps he can then give me his price. So I email him the model numbers for the units IÂm interested in and I send him the direct link to the fridge and freezer on the Electrolux website. And he sends me a reply email telling me that Electrolux doesnÂt make refrigerators or freezers!!...See More- 11 years ago
