Comments (25)"But it's through Mary's kind of open, honest blundering that we all learn. She may have been a dumbass in this particular circumstance, but she was an honest dumbass, and there's not much more we can ask of one another." That is true when you look at it from the first post and I was going to let it go with my first post until she came back with an attitude, blaming someone else for her actions and changing her story to a native story to get herself off the hook. That is when her dumbass honesty went right out the door. Then the others pile on. Glad C3D ended it with the truth about euthanasia. I'm with you Z-Chick on the instant brain death method. She really would have faired better if all that 'support' didn't show up to aggrevate the situation. Who am I to judge her - nobody. I've cleanly killed plenty of animals and that IS hypocritical from a death standpoint. I am sorry but I could not let it pass because she was killing a hapless creature and looking for congratulations. She faired FAR BETTER than the frog and we all know she will do the same thing again - she said so directly. She will control her pond against nature. Wait until the first snake shows up, or raccoon, or heron...... If anything - other posters will learn not to be such dumbasses but I don't believe it will stop them from posting to learn. This person was not posting to learn. I am done with it (I hope) unless another dumbass pops up (and then this dumbass will jump right back into the thick of it). Not much more I can say to the original OP however - as I shredded her actions to the maximum already (good, bad or ugly as it may have been). The 'plant boy bring it' was hysterical BTW. Good thing you said that because that post hit about 3 major nerves for me and I did hold back. Anyway - who wants to lay down money that thread is not done:-)...See Morewwgwd - what would gw do - door frame lower than window frames
Comments (18)Since you asked "what would you do?", what I would do (which isn't what others here would do, and I'm not criticizing them) is to fix it with trim. Honestly, I don't think anyone will notice unless you point it out to them. My front door is trimmed below the two windows next to it and I never noticed before this post. I am very particular about a lot of things, but this isn't a battle I would choose since the cost to change is so high and the the resulting fix is so small. When we were building our home 14 years ago, we had a couple of minor probems, both of which our GC offered to pay to fix. We declined since neither were a big deal to us. If it were a question of safety, that's another story. I understand those who say make them fix it. It is your money and you're paying to get what you want. But, you're obviously thinking twice about it or you wouldn't have asked the question. Economic times are tough, and it could be one of the lowest paid workers on the job who has to end up paying for this error. Comments (30)Count me in as TKO as well! I have been planning for over a year now, ever since we had our offer accepted on this house. I found this site soon after and it has been so wonderful and informative--my plans have changed a zillion times with every new or interesting k;tchen I see. Besides GW, I also run through the cable guide on my tv for two weeks at a time and DVR all the HGTV shows that have to do with k;tchens--Bang for Your Buck (the great room eps too, as those often include k;tchens); Dear Genevieve; Holmes on Homes; Divine Design; Color Splash; Spice up my K;tchen---you get the picture. Don't always love or even like what I see, but I most always learn something. I also subscribe to 24 design blogs--half deal specifically with k;tchens and the rest post about them at least some of the time. My cabinet maker said I'm the most prepared client he thinks he's ever had (and that it was a good thing, not annoying--but who knows? ;->). My remod@l doesn't even start until late August, and now that I have picked everything, I'm kind of twiddling my thumbs---but I still love reading about k;tchens!...See MoreWeek 135 - What's your favorite GW idea?
Comments (36)GW faves in my four month old kitchen: 1) My soapstone counters (Belvedere)-a hard, durable variety, with gorgeous green inclusions. So sensuous to touch! Four months later, and I still find myself petting them. 2) M.Teixeira, the soapstone distributor and fabricator. Friendly, accommodating, professional, and expert fabricators. They made the whole process seamless, despite having to hold my slab for many, many months. 3) All drawers, especially the pots and pans drawers under the cooktop-so convenient! 4) The large drawers under the main sink-contractor fought me in this, "You'll never know if you have a leak!" But, I love them! They hold so much...all my cleaning stuff, dish washer pods, plastic wrap, tin foil, wax paper, dish towels, rolls of tall kitchen bags, paper towels, blue scrubbie sponges, etc. Not having to deal with the big cavern under the sink, and aftermarket pullouts, is dream. 5) Miele Combi Steam Oven. Oh, how we love this machine! It cooks everything to a juicy perfection! Pork chops, chicken, fish...you name it! Veggies come out with just the right amount of crunch. Great for reheating, too. We use our microwave far less than we used to. 6) Surpah Over the Sink Mat. Handwashables drain into the sink. When not in use, it's rolled up and stored in the top drawer, under the main sink. 7) Bosch 800 Series dishwasher. Brilliant interior configuration-accommodates a variety of bowl shapes and sizes, love the upper silverware tray, it cleans beautifully, and is so quiet! Thank goodness for the red light that beams on the floor. Otherwise, I wouldn't know that it's on! 8) Double pail garbage pullout. So, so, so more convenient than the pail under the sink I used to have, and cleaner, too. A bonus...for some reason, there's no garbage-y smell, like it had under the sink. Also, with a recycling pail behind the trash pail, I'm no longer hoofing it to the garage, every time I need to discard empty glass, plastic or asceptic items. 9) Tray divider in cab above the double ovens. It's where I keep all the different pans and racks that came with the combi steam oven and the convection oven (both Miele), in addition to an assortment of trays. 10) A second sink. Though it's smaller than the main sink, I'm not going to call it a prep sink, since prepping takes place in both locations. In my wide galley kitchen, it's mighty convenient to have a sink on both sides of the kitchen, especially when two cooks are working at the same time. Thnaks to all who contributed these ideas, and so many others. I am eternally grateful for helping me create a beautiful, functional kitchen....See Moredaisychain Zn3b
