The Mendota FV44, Valor G3 and G4 and Fireplace Xtraordinair make similar models. Mendota is more efficient than the valor. I am getting a FV44 myself.

These are just things to stick in the fireplace opening. The fireplace insert being referred to above actually can heat your whole house and are very efficient.

Thanks for the advice. Looking to see if we can get a larger viewing area on the gas fireplace if anyone has any advice.

What is your priority? Heat or something nice to look at?

You see, gas and wood create heat, and the larger the appliance, the more heat they generate. This is one area where bigger is not better.

If all you want is ambience get an electric fireplace. The flames can be realistic with todays technology and they won't make you open all the windows when they're in operation.
