ISO quality wood laptop cart for living room

Try as I might, I can't get the laptop out of my living room. All of my furniture is beautiful vintage mahogany from the '20's and '30's. Does anyone have any suggestions for a small laptop cart that would work? None of the ones I've found while searching would look good with my room, and from the reviews, the quality isn't there either. I'd like something made of solid wood, preferably with a tilt top and a stationary side for a mouse. It needs to be staple (apparently a problem with most of the laptop carts out there), but it doesn't have to hold a lot of weight. TIA!

Btw., I wanted to search before posting, but since houzz acquired GW I can't find a way to search a single forum, only the entire GW site.

I always thought a laptop should be used in a lap.

Instead of searching for a laptop cart, how a looking for a vintage secretary or desk? Laptop cart pretty much screams cheap and flimsy, IMO.

Yes Pink Peony, I know I asked for suggestions and loved all of yours!!! Eventually, I would love to work towards implementing a lot of what you suggested! But, on my budget I need to take baby steps. I ask for ideas to see my final ‘dream room’ and then keep the concept in mind so that anything I do stays in the direction of that goal. I do LOVE that colour scheme but, for now, I might just have to work with the furniture placement and perhaps buying ivory colour chairs to start. Then, later I can ‘toss’ the love seat from the window and replace with comfy chairs and perhaps then change the wall colour in the dining room and switch up the coffee table and wall art to match. Chalk paint might me a great idea for my existing side table cuz it really is a nice (antique!) table!

On a tight budget, consider shopping at your local Habitat for Humanity Restore Store. Sometimes they have nothing I'd want, however, other times they have some really nice stuff -- estates donated -- and you can get wing back chairs and rockers and even recliners Their inventory varies daily. When considering buying used, know what you're getting. Look it over carefully. I chose two (different occasions a few months apart) very comfortable wood rockers with separate cushions I took to the local coin laundry and washed in cold water on a gentle cycle with lemon scented Mr. Clean before bringing them home to dry them (so they'd not shrink in the dryer -- took nearly two days to dry so I left the cushions on the dash of my car overnight. One required a couple of replacement bolts to the "lock" of the rocker but the other only required tightening the existing bolts. IF you do buy something fabric/upholstered you cannot launder, I'd recommend you do give it a close look and sniff test before buying and spray it first for any fleas the former owners pets may have added (etc.) and then for smell before taking it into the house.

The ONLY way I would buy a 300.00 chair, would be in a teen dorm, to toss the old teddy bear , or the clothes that the kid refused to hang. Why? Because I don't fill the landfill - nor do I waste a clients money. ( Note: there is no free in life, and there is NO free shipping. It's IN the chair pricing in all of this stuff ) On what planet do trucks not need fuel, does a worker not get paid to pack and wrap?! What dock worker is hauling this container of junk off a ship for FREE? ) I understand resources, and the urge to finish a space. But you are being unrealistic about price points that would get some longevity and quality. Unless you are buying this to throw out, or to NEVER sit down. West Elm........ 799.00 ...and yes 6 weeks and their shipping. There are others, and other colors Even Better Quality? Room and Board... A sampling of choices... You don't want me to tell you that a decent chair starts at a grand or close. I would wait, save up. Room and Board ships for 75.00 dollars. Ask yourself how soon you'd like to be replacing an Amazon or Wayfair chair.

Thanks, Violet. I didn't see anything at the Levenger site, but I'll check their catalog just in case. What I'm envisioning is just the sort of thing Levenger SHOULD carry.

Errant, thanks for the suggestion. If it were just for light browsing, I'd use a tablet, maybe with a lapdesk, but my computer usage is a little heavier than that. I really need something that can be pulled up close to the sofa or to an arm chair so I can keep my feet elevated, and I need a surface for a mouse since I've never really mastered the touchpad. FWIW. I already have a beautiful mahogany writing desk in the room, and another in the the adjacent study.

Learning the touchpad may be easier than your quest of a sturdy wooden cart, and it'll be less expensive. A little practice and then your lap will work just fine in whatever position you want to be in. There are adjustments you can make for the touchpad so that it is as responsive as you need.

On my screen, as I enter in the search term in the search box, there's a drop down which has options for "search in [current] forum" or "search in advice" (which is all of it.)

I use my laptop heavily and yep, you guessed it, I use my lap as the table. I can use the mouse pad though I loathe it or I can keep the mouse on the table beside my chair that is as high as the chair arm. It works fine. I can't imagine finding a cart that would work for you both functionally and aesthetically.

For a long time, I kept my laptop on top of a tray. The tray could then be set on the couch to the side for casual surfing (not heavy typing). It sat on top of the tray, leaving space below for air circulation, pens, pads, etc. I had a mouse pad and mouse next to it also. Worked pretty well.

My laptop is collecting dust now, though, as I typically only use my Mac which is set up in the corner of the family room, and my kindle, and my phone.

Thanks, everyone. From what I can see in Romy's picture, her husband's laptop cart would work for me. I didn't see anything like it on either the Levenger or Frontgate sites, but I called Frontgate and they said that they usually have them during the holiday season, so I'll check back with both sites in a few months.

We had the Brookstone cart and it was excellent. But I think that Realspace Costal Ridge one in mahogany looks very interesting!
