How should I prune this? Thick trunk/stalk rose bush.
Comments (20)I'm sure it won't hurt, just build up your trough with the mulch and don't lay it too thick on the inside so water can easily get through it, maybe an inch or so? Mom always did that with hers, keeps the roots cool and wet. You can also find some type of ground cover to plant around it next season, or whenever you are done moving it around lol. Something that can handle being trimmed if necessary is and fast growing, but won't take all the food from the rose. There's this stuff here in Indiana that's got little yellow flowers and creeps over the ground, grows like a weed just about anywhere and can take over if you're not careful, really resistant to both wet and dry weather and can handle hard freezes and blaring sun with no worries; we put it in all of our empty-looking flower beds that have big, tall plants but it chokes out smaller things like hyacinth (don't know if I spelled that right... oops). After a quick Google search I found the name of it, Czar's Gold Sedum. The link is a place to buy it and the only one I could find that looks like ours, not sure if it will grow well where you're at but hopefully it will help give you a place to start looking if you want to give something like it a try. :3 Here is a link that might be useful: Czars Gold Sedum, takes a bit of scrolling down to find it This post was edited by SasorisPuppet on Fri, Apr 11, 14 at 11:15...See MoreYogurt...probably the wrong forum?
Comments (110)I make homemade yogurt all the time. I really like straining it (for greek yogurt) and adding grated english cucumber (well drained), minced garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper for tzatziki. Great on crackers, veggies, etc. I buy the culture from the New England Cheesemaking company (I like the sour culture) and follow the recipe of the guy on YouTube - type in Greek Yogurt. The guy from Colorado with the little Greek flag is the one you are looking for. I have also the cultures for sour cream and creme fraiche, but have not had the occasion to make them yet. To answer your question, I do not think you need to boil the milk, but it does need to be heated to the right temperature. To set the yogurt, I just use my oven. No heating pads or extra stuff...I put my oven on for about 3 minutes at 200 (the lowest setting) and then put my bowl in the oven (covered) overnight. (It is not even close to 200 degrees) In the morning, I put coffee filters in my colander and put the yogurt in that (refrigerated) for about a day. I use the unbleached coffee filters instead of the cheesecloth as I was concerned about getting the cheescloth clean enough between uses. You can use this yogurt for making more batches, but since I make a gallon at a time of milk, it lasts me and my family over a week....See MoreWhen should I stop breast feeding......
Comments (10)The consensus in the lactation and health arenas is that you should continue to nurse as long as both you and your child would like. No rules! Every day (or month, or year) is great for both of you. This is a personal thing between mother and child, and children who no longer care to nurse, for whatever reason, simply stop showing interest. Other people may continue to have opinions on this and other aspects of your life, mothering and otherwise, but hey! Only you know what works for you, and feels good. What works may vary from mom to mom, and from child to child. For the record, La Leche League has no official recommendations on length of nursing, just plenty of information and a great network for mothers, health care professionals, etc. There are articles and links on the website. If issues come up (from biting to nosy neighbors) meetings are a great place to check in for both parenting and lactation feedback/dialogue. If there are no meetings in your area you can check out online meetings through the website. There isn't one way to nurse -- both a good thing and a challenge! For those of you out there "still nursing," enjoy! Soon enough children grow up and that nursing season is a sweet memory. Like other sweet memories, we tend not to wish we spent less time cuddling those closest to us. And nursing is, first and last, a great cuddle, with nutrition and immune factors a fabulous side bonus! Comments (51)Satine, you are going to make it, you can see what to do for now at least and you'll just have to take each event and work it out. By securing all your valuables and making sure your banking is only in your possession you are protecting yourself, even if its, sadly, from your own DD. I would like to say when I read your post, she is innocent but I don't have that feeling. If she was nine years old with the neighborhood klepto, yea, I could see it but she dangled the carrot in front of a BAD kind of guy at the age of twenty. I'd say that was sort of unusual. I don't know maybe you have coins all set out in a bookcase and they are super cool but I'm not thinking that's how this story goes. What was she thinking? I've always told my kids to be kind to everyone but in no way do I encourage them to temp the temped. (guessing you haven't either) Or to jump into danger just because someone else is doing it and it's exciting. Like taking drugs, drinking, all that. Your dd isn't exactly seeing the difference. Empathy is good, although not in this instance. Heaven knows no one is perfect but there are some people who have a hard time learning what is wrong and right or at least people who never seem to learn from their mistakes. She needs a counselor to help her see how much of a wonderful future she has if she can focus on friends that are good for her, to be respectful and honest to others and herself. I sure hope she see's that soon or who knows what kind of life she will have. You don't want to see that, I know but she needs to see that her lousy guy friend is making really bad choices and one day he could/will drag her down with him, even if she feels sorry for him. You will have to dance on that fine line. If you mention to her she should drop him, most likely she will cling on for dear life. If you don't do something to gently help her see the light, she may end up in trouble. Good luck, I hope she does the right thing from now on....See MoreChristyle
