One Black Knot gall found on plum root

It might be a crown gall, but it also might have turned fully black later if I hadn't removed it when I saw it (it was dark brown and nearly an inch big). It was on my Bruce plum that I had gotten potted from a local nursery. It was on a root, but it was a root inches higher than the rootball that went from the trunk, through air, and then into the ground.

So I cut the root off and pulled up the part in the soil. But I couldn't cut out many inches, as the entire root wasn't very long. Nothing looks the least bit discolored or swollen on the whole tree, except for that one gall or knot.

What should I do now and for the future? I've never seen Black Knot around here at all, but obviously having it come from the nursery could introduce it :(

Thanks for any advice! It wasn't on the tree when I bought it earlier in the year, btw. I did inspect them all :)
