Dahlais NC zone 7b Help!!
Comments (4)Plantlady2 Thank you for responding. From your profile you sound like a Dahlia Master!. My previous gardens never had these problems. For 10 years I always dug them up in the fall and replanted in the spring. They were beautiful. Last spring when I did the planting I didn't have any old tubers to plant. We moved here in mid August and I could not dig any up to take with me. Everything was bought fresh, except the ones that grew from the previous owner. I was digging around in the beds over the weekend. I found allot of holes and tunnels. Maybe Moles/Voles were the demise of the dahlias last season. This spring I decided to only plant the dahlias in large pots to see if it makes a difference. I hate to give up on such beautiful flowers! Thanks.......Dianne...See MoreTrading Plants/Starts in NW Denver metro area
Comments (118)I agree, it certainly looks like Sea Monster! All colors look correct to include beard and it's definitely a SDB size and bloom time. I know I didn't bring any of that variety unless it was a mis-id, though. Pretty sure I posted names of all of those I could read with pics but there were some that were so dried and faded that I couldn't read them so completely possible. I hope it's a strong increaser--I'll be watching for this one to be shared in future swaps!!!! Love it! Popmama, I'll have to look to see if I saved a Faerie Court for myself, REALLY like that one as well! I'll be involved with the EIS sale this year so I'll probably have more bags to give away after everything settles. I'll yell back here when/if that happens. Anyone wanting to get first dibs on their offerings for the year should come out to the sale, last weekend in July at Spencer's in the Springs. Am told that they'll be digging/dividing their historic display bed for this sale as well as taking member contributions of rhizomes so it should be a great selection with some seldom offered older varieties as well as newer releases! Can't wait!...See MoreHello, I'm new here! Zone 7b. Rose Wishful Grower
Comments (19)Wow.. thank you so much everyone. !!! So far the only rose that i have purchased myself is Mercury Rising. I do like to. I've had all my roses safely moved away from NN.. into containers. This year I hope yo but the saucers to go under the containers and a drip system to connect them.. lugging water is no fun. Also hoping to dig up a path to them. I'll need lots of prayers for that feat! I buy those $1 throw away roses because it's a I can afford, but the failure rate it exorbitant! Egads... I keep hoping to find local people to share with but not a soul here cares for gardening much less roses: (...See MoreWhich palm trees can be grown in Russia (USDA zone 8a)?
Comments (22)I wonder how expensive it would be for me to send you a few of my little Sabal Minors, I have several. I will likely not have room for all of them. I can send you a few maybe, if you are interested. As for the oaks, I'm kinda glad you are interested in them because I will be talking about them now. I LOVE Live oaks, I can't grow the Quercus Virginiana here in Pa zone 6, but, I'm growing a hardier variety of Live oak, but, it grows really slow. I've tried a Quercus Ilex also, but, it died, and as far as the Quercus Chrysolepis, it is also zone 6 hardy at least and I'm zone 6. So I must be happy with my Quercus Fusiformis "Quartz mountain". You can look it up if you care too. If your interested in my baby Sabal Minors let me know, maybe I can send you a few when they are dormant in October. I don't expect any money for them as long as I can send them dormant with no soil to make the package heavy....See MoreZachS. z5 Platteville, Colorado
