My3dogs and all: chair makeover please.
Comments (13)I have two wing chairs at my DR table that were originally LR chairs. Great suggestions about checking the arm height to see that it fits under the lip of the table. Also you will want to check sitting in them to make sure they are tall enough that a normal size person can sit in them and reach the table without feeling as though they are sitting on the floor. If the chair seats are too low, instead of putting on an extraordinary amount of cushioning which will sink, I put some casters that I ordered from a hardware that deals in products for restoration (not RH) which gave me the needed height without adding a lot of fluff that would sink and need redoing. My chairs were Chippendale mahogany so they were solid enough to withstand the installation of the casters which before examining the chairs was the initial concern for my furniture guy. Tufted for a DR? That is up to you, but I am not sure I would gussy up the chairs too much. I would want them to be as comfortable as the other chairs but not take away from the rest of the room as you want your meal, your tablescape and guests to be the feature. Have you ever owned tufted chairs? They are a pain to keep clean and the upholstery yardage almost doubles (or can double depending on fabric) when tufting plus the labor is higher. Crumbs and dust can get into the tufting and be very difficult to remove. I add this because I am about to have my recamier upholstered and I asked my sister who is an interior designer if I could remove the tufting from the seating and keep it in the back and keeping it looking proper. She reminded me that it is often done by Ralph Lauren. If you do upholster using tufting, that is an idea since you will be using it in a DR....See Morecost of an upholstered headboard does this sound correct?
Comments (14)thanks to all of you for the kindness, replies and suggestions. I really thank you. So many of the headboards were lovely. I guess I wanted a tufted headboard because I thought it would make an elegant statement. it is for a guest bedroom. I'd like to ask if Shabby Chic is dated or is it still popular? I have funds to purchase some shabby chic furniture or I have a nice cherry dresser and i could look for some nice end tables to position near the bed and have more of a Southern Living look. Any thoughts on some good websites to review as far as those two looks? My home is basically a second home on the coast and I want to make it welcoming to friends and guests. I have the bare bones completed but need to look for rugs and panels/draperies as I have nothing absorbing the sound.... hard to carry on a conversation. I don't r need a lot of draperies as i have plantation shutters throughout the house. One lady told me about a site called www.curtainexchange. Has anyone ever had an experience with them? I hope it is okay to post that site. I just wondered if someone out there could help me. I am running out of steam making decisions. Thanks for reading the post .........and yes, like everyone else I am on a budget looking for something tasteful but yet won't break the bank. Again, thanks to all that replied. dixied...See MoreThe Dreaded Favorite Chair
Comments (42)I love the Kelly green velvet, so I would say "Go for it!" A harmonizing plaid in Kelly green, navy, and white would be great for a small quilted piece to protect the back of the chair and for throw pillows and pull-down shades. Since it is your husband's favorite chair, I would suggest you incorporate all these ideas and furnishings to make a den for him, perhaps in the loft area you mentioned....See MoreA New Desk and a Finished Gallery Wall
Comments (40)I love that chair, Terrilynn, it looks comfortable and functional. There is plush carpet in the room so I will check it out for a swatch and version that does not roll. The pillow captures all of the main colors in the painting, how did you do that?? Checking this on my laptop there is no ability to thank the last several posters for responding--seems I can only do that on my ipad, how bizarrely this site functions (or doesn't) sometimes. I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions. I had been avoiding this room because it was so jumbled and unfinished. At least at this point it is together enough to leave the door open, which reminds me to come in and take care of the stuff I need to do. I've ordered a lighter blue textured duvet cover and hope to use that with the navy quilt folded at the foot of the bed. Hopefully the new blue will be in the right range. I haven't been able to find a print that's just right and may just table that. The curtains are bossy enough and I am finding solid colors very soothing these days. Even though we have been living here two years I haven't even started on the big room downstairs; it is still a repository for all the furniture I couldn't let go of and a few new, inexpensive things. Big surprise though, the gigantic leather sectional from IKEA has been used, abused, slept on, eaten on, and everything else-ed on and it is wearing like iron, so whatever I do it will stay. When unpacking my mother's stuff I came across a pencil drawing of my father and, incredibly, a colored pencil drawing of my mother! I'm having both framed and may need help finding a place for them :)...See Moregirlwithponytail
