Finished! Pictures & Details in the Gallery
Comments (15)Sorry I'm late responding to this Bob, hope you still see it. I used matte finish for both the white and black, so they are glazed. Didn't order a sample of the black unglazed, though I did have white at one time. The unglazed I've seen online does seem less black, but I think it will appear as black when its on the floor. It is my opinion to use the same finish for both the black and white tile unless you have samples of both and they blend nicely together with regards to the shape of the top of the tiles....See MoreNew Gallery Wall (pics)
Comments (35)wigardenerwannabe, For years I have picked up frames whenever I would see them cheaply. I have a stash of empty picture frames and when I have enough for spot I pull them out. Sometimes I rummage around and look for ones w/ dings and scratches and ask for a discounted price since the piece is damaged. Then I just take a black sharpie and hide the knick. My frames usually come from TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross, Wal-Mart and IKEA. I always like things to fit into a perfect little box so all of my arrangements are even w/ nothing hanging out on the ends. That's just my personal preference for me. I often admire those gallery walls that I see that are uneven but I like symmetry 95% of the time. Often I will use my DR table as it is a long rectangle and just start laying out frames until I get a look that I like. If the arrangement will be larger I use the floor. I stopped using a tape measure and level a long time ago because when you buy cheaper frames the hooks on the back are rarely in line. I'm pretty good at eyeballing things and have usually been able to just start hanging them one by one w/ minor adjustments on eveness as I go. We'll see how badly that goes when I attempt a grid above my fireplace. And now thanks to my friends at GW who told me about 3M it will go much faster from here on out! pps7 - the wall color is BM Jonesboro Cream....See MoreFinished Kitchen in Gallery?
Comments (8)Natenvalsmom, this is truly an outstanding transformation! My apologies for rushing past it when you first posted to the Gallery. To be honest, I am guilty of just not taking the time to seriously study the incredible differences between how your kitchen looked "before" and "after." Besides being in rush, though, I'm going to blame part of not paying sufficient attention the first time around to the fact that I think your kitchen was looking pretty darn good in the first place. However now, after taking a real serious look, I must say the difference between what was and what is - well it's as big as night and day! Congratulations! And speaking of night and day. First of all, regardless of how good it looked before, the change to white cabinetry and opening up of the space moves your once dark, sleek and good-looking kitchen to a bright, spacious, inviting and gorgeous cooking/gathering center for the whole family. Secondly, I definitely agree with your assessment that the old tile was rather tired, outdated and ugly. But the new backsplash and red granite counter tops? Cool, hot and wicked! And the lighting? The change from the single fluorescent panel to recessed cans and pendants, along with the increase of window areas, is simply stunning. Lastly, I'm also loving the variety of seating areas -- from the island to the breakfast nook/banquette and sofa. Now, when you (and others) make your way around the new kitchen, your family and friends can have several great new places to plop down, get comfy and visit with the chef. Clearly, that was not possible in your previous galley style kitchen with wall cut-out. The new layout is awesome. In all, I just want to say that I think you have done a really phenomenal job here which really is deserving of more attention! Hopefully, the rest of the TKOs will discover this lost gem -- if not here, then on the FKB-- and give you all the thumbs you deserve for a job so very well done. You go!...See MoreTwp new Gallery Updates
Comments (7)Maybe the answer is for us to get a sticky over there that says "Please read before you post here" and lets people know that questions go over here and huge photo collections go over there? Seems that couldn't hurt because "lost" people are always kicking the best threads to page 2, 3, 4, etc. Not only that but there is repetition on the color threads. It would be great to see just a few really right on the mark color threads stay on page one too. JMO. I haven't seen any other boards with serious galleries -- but maybe the kitchen board has one? Not sure. Others need to chime in here. Maybe we should start a new thread about this and ask people for ideas and see if they would at least join us in asking -- is it Tamara? -- to put a sticky in the gallery attempting to protect it better?? I do like your ideas!...See MoreKswl
