No one has this sink?

Sorry, I don't have the 1-1 1/2, but I do have the 1 3/4 with high divide. I occasionally use this dish drainer in the small side. It works very well.

For those individuals with 1 bowl only, where do you place your washed dishes to dry?

Kbear - my dishes get washed in the dishwasher. My pots and pans and knives I do handwash in my 30" single-bowl sink. Those I either dry on the spot with a dishtowel, or lay the dishtowel on the counter, put the wet things on the towel, and in an hour or so they are dry. I think people do not use their dishwashers enough. You spent $$$ on the dishwasher, people, use it! (And, since I am mentioning dishtowels, here is a recent thread about them. I am partial to the ribs in the Now Designs Ripple Dish Towels, because they seem to work very well when you lay things on them to dry. But I digress.)

I would never, evah, go back to a double bowl sink. My sister has a double-bowl sink and every time she is in my kitchen--Every. Single. Time.--she mentions how she wished she'd gotten a single bowl sink like mine. We were all at her house last Thanksgiving and she and I did the dishes. The platters and baking pans and turkey roasting pan all had to be wrestled to be washed in that double bowl sink, with water going everywhere, and lots of banging into the divider.

The low-divide sinks, even though they are lower, you still have to lean a cookie sheet, baking pan, or platter up against that divide on an angle, and then fill the sink really high with wasteful amount of water in order to soak those things, because they can't lay flat. Also, I agree with mentioned above, that there is the gunk in the non-disposal-side drainstopper to contend with.

That Blanco Diamond 1-1/2 looks like a nice sink. I have an older stainless sink with a similar division and LOVE it! It's the only thing I like about my kitchen. I will never have a single bowl sink. The bowls are 21" x 15.75" and 7.5" x 15.75". My disposer is in the small side.

I wash dishes in the large side and can fit everything in it, never needing to drag out another big bowl or pot to fill with soapy water. If the plates or pots have leftover food, it goes right into the disposer side, sometimes with a quick rinse (if really bad) then into the soapy water. My washing side doesn't get filled up with gunk, as it would with a single bowl. If someone else comes to the sink to dump something out, they don't have to bother me and my soapy water. I have a draining pad where I put the washed dishes until they are dried.

Most on GW seem to be sold on single bowl sinks, but I'm not in that group. If the only double bowls available were 50-50 division, then yes, but that's not the case.

Lynne, thank you. You just pointed out some things that I hadn't thought of, especially being able to rinse dirty dishes out while washing others. You just convinced me. Now, to find a granite double sink as big as the one I have now...

Great comments/ideas. I'm starting to be persuaded towards the super single sink...

I have the 1 ½ and I love it. The large side fits all of my biggest sheet pans, roasting pans, etc. I've never not had anything fit in the large side. I like to be able to have dirty dishes in one side and have a separate, clean side to use for other things (draining pasta, washing fruits and vegetables, discarding food scraps down the disposal, etc).

I have also been using a nifty roll up drying rack (as suggested by romy!) which lays across the large bowl so as to not take up any counter space, gives me access to the large bowl underneath since it only goes halfway across, leaves me the small sink for other tasks, AND rolls up and stores neatly under the sink when not in use!

Kbear - my advice is to go to a showroom that has the sinks you are considering, bring one of your large pots or pans with you (don't be embarrassed, people do it all the time), and "act out" washing the pan in each sink. There is nothing like a real-life test to help you make up your mind. It really works.

i cannot tell from your post if you are talking about Blanco's Silgranit, or a stainless steel sink. The offset drain in the Silgranit BlancoDiamond Super Single is pretty great. I am not sure if that's offered in the stainless steel version.

Thank you for all the ideas and thoughts. I am interested in a composite material only (so yes, siligranit); no stainless steel.

Agree - need to just go in person and look/feel/touch and pretend I am washing dishes, etc.

Great Kbear! Isn't it nice to get a decision out of the way? Note that Blanco makes two "Super Single" sinks. As I mentioned, get the BlancoDiamond Super Single - that's the model with the corner drain. Once you have a corner drain, you won't go back to a center drain.

Yes, that was the one I was planning on getting. and Yes, every decision made is like running across a finish line. :)

I have a friend who is building a house right now. The sink subject came up the other night and I was amazed at how nonchalant she was about it, no obvious stress over her decision (low divide but to sure exactly which one.) I guess when so many decisions to make when building, you just have to pick something and move on rather than al of this consternation over a sink. Yet, kbear_15, I am glad there are people out there like me who seem to want to make an informed decision. By the way, what faucet did you decide upon?

Yes, having the drive and need to research every single detail can be a blessing and curse at the same time. I feel the same was as you - I feel the need to make the best, educated, informed decision that I can with the resources I have available. I have not decided on a faucet yet. :)
