Please help me plan where to plant ras/black/blueberries:)
Comments (17)Nourse's planting guide says it can take 4-6 weeks. Unless it is still winter where you are, 6 weeks feels like a long time. I planted both bare root and potted raspberries this spring and was very impressed with the potted ones. They are 2-3' tall (2nd year cane) and already leafed out (both the 2nd year cane and new growth). I'm thinking that this should give me a fast start on berry production. There doesn't seem to be as many options for potted plants online (selection and price), but I'll definitely consider them as my first choice in the future. 3 places that sell them: Rolling River Nursery- where I got the impressive plants this year. Great price- 5 Caroline in 4"-4"-6" pot for $25. Berries Unlimited- I haven't gotten any raspberries from them, but I see they sell them and their blueberry plants were quite large (and a bit pricey). Backyard Berry Plants- I bought a few last fall and they were quite large, but much pricier ($15 each). They have quite a few varieties....See MorePlease check my plans for oven choice and layout
Comments (16)Ontariomom and Barbarav I do like my Bosch oven although the glass cleaning can be an issue. I have been very careful taking items with liquid out of the oven to avoid anything dripping into the vent opening at the top of the door. No problems for 2 years until I grabbed a baked sweet potato wrapped in foil a few weeks ago and ended up with a small drip. It's not noticeable until you turn the oven light on so I'm not motivated to do anything about it yet, Someone had some tips for reaching into the vents to clean the glass that I might try, or worst case we take apart the door to clean it - it's out of warranty at this point anyway. The counter and cabinet do not become excessively warm when the oven is on and it vents from the front - so I wouldn't worry about installing it next to a refrigerator. I do have a friend with that set up (different brand) who dented her refrigerator door by opening it against the oven handle - so it's good to be aware of those possible issues as you evaluate brands. I have an odd little set up in my kitchen - that works for me. But here is a look at my raised cabinet oven. The cabinet is 42 inches and the granite brings the height to 42 3/4 - the same as your plan Ontariomom. The oven sits a couple inches higher than my old range oven - so bending isn't an issue for me. The counter steam/microwaves work well for the family at that raised counter height. I went with the Bosch 500 for the knob/retro look, size and price at the time. Beyond the drip, it's been a good oven that bakes evenly. I also know that many here love their Electrolux ovens. Good luck with your decision!...See MorePlease help me connect my speaker selector to my receiver
Comments (4)just take the two front (left/right) speaker outputs from your amp(stereo) and hook them up to the speaker selector input, from the selector go to each set of speakers you want to control(I have L.V RM/FAMILY RM/GARAGE),make sure the impedance protection is activated on the speaker selector(as you do not want to damage your amp).If you hook up your input off of the center channel you will get mostly vocals out of your set up(not good) .If you can you should try your set up with at least the center speaker the effect is most impressive with most movies!Good luck!...See MoreGarage Subpanel - Check My Plans, Please?
Comments (8)The garage is entirely surrounded by concrete - driveway, breezeway, back patio. The only side of the garage not guarded by concrete is facing my neighbor, as the garage is built very close to the lot line (I guess there were no setback rules 100 years ago). I cannot go underground without breaking out concrete, and there are no handy joints to separate old and new concrete. I'd have to just cut a narrow trench and patch it, which would look awful. I'd rather use masts, even though I think that will look bad too. It is really too bad that the person who remodeled the house didn't plan ahead and install a really sizable chase/conduit path. The circuit to the garage is NM cable buried in concrete. By the way, do I actually need to disconnect the existing circuit to the garage? Somehow I recall reading that would be required, it is unsafe/not code to serve a garage with a subpanel and a branch circuit from the main panel. I don't know where I read that. If not, then it would be more convenient to leave the existing garage door and 2 gang outlet on the existing circuit. On the ground rods, I'm reading I need 2 rods, at least 8 feet apart, with #6 bare wire....See Moreaec2013
