Silly question about broccoli

Mine is about done with making side shoots. If I leave it alone, will it somehow come back when the temps cool down, or do I have to plant new plants?

Not sure if it would come back and make additional side shoots in the fall. For me it would not be worth the trouble battling the cabbage worms until fall to find out. I always pull mine in late May or early June and plant more in early to mid August with Bush beans or summer squash in between. If you are going to start more from seed yourself now is the time.

At this late date for broccoli sowing in Indiana, I would saw an early variety like Packman...not my favorite though.

You may know that they were named in honor of the German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn. I wonder how he pronounced his name. I have imagined that it was probably zin, not zeen, which has led me to the zin pronunciation. Any German speakers out there? More "Zin" than "Zeen," in German. But what about Diervilla? To the extent that people ever speak about it at all, it seems that most people say Dye-er-VIL-a, but Merriam-Webster gives Deer-VIL-a and I have one British example of DEER-vil-a. However, it's named for a French botanist with the surname Diereville, which I would pronounce as Dee-AIR-a-vee, so maybe the pronunciation should be Dee-air-VEE-ya. BTW, the real Albany is in New York.

Hi, Yes you are right with your drawing on the right. The pups will grow up and have pups of their own. Sans seem to benefit from growing in colonies like this, versus being separated the into separate plants. Not a silly question.

I say mix! When I bought for kitchen and bath I had 2 different sales reps tell me they liked Kohler best for bathroom and Delta best for kitchen. In the end I also liked the color choice in Delta for my kitchen faucet. Got Kohler for bath and I even mixed styles there. The style I liked best was very expensive so I got it on certain shower pieces where I didn't like the alternatives but went with a less expensive faucet and towel racks that match in color and compliment in style. In the end my bathroom has 3 different Kohler models/styles.. All the same color....I bet nobody even notices they're different.

The OP's house has some small traditional features and it has a gable roof but its definitely not a Cape. A Cape always has a roof steep enough for a second story under the rafters with windows only in the gable ends. The entrance is always under the roof eave; a full cape has 2 windows each side of the door, a 3/4 cape has one on one side and two on the other, a half cape has a window each side of the door. You can drive for a mile through E. Oleans, MA and see very few houses that are not true capes. One story elements are sometimes added to the sides but rarely porches or dormers. Only a realtor would call the OP's house a cape. A Field Guide to American Houses classifies the OP's house as "Minimal Traditional" which is part of a larger category: "Modern" houses.

Green Giant is another variety that does good in fall. I have started seeds and will put out soon as I grow several planting in fall

I have not heard of Green Giant broccoli. Google search only brings up images of pre-packaged broccoli with the big green guy on the package. If you meant to say Green Goliath then I think the 76 DTM might be too long for the OP to start from seed now in Indiana to get a harvest before winter sets in. I agree with Wayne that an early variety like Pacman or Early Dividend would be a better choice for the OP at this point.
