Silly question about cut flowers
Comments (12)I find that roses with more substantial petals (like perhaps the HT Dream Come True) will last as well in the vase or even longer than on the plant, if kept cool. Roses can drop petals more quickly in dry or hot weather, and cutting them can help, or even refrigerating them like exhibitors do. On the other hand, there are roses like some of the David Austin multipetal fluffy roses that are desperately fast to drop their petals when cut, so they're better enjoyed in the yard. And no, it's not remotely a silly question. We're all rose fanatics here and want to enjoy the blooms as long as possible. We can totally relate... Comments (7)Usually when you buy seeds, it'll list days to harvest or days to flower, it's really means how many days after you transplant a healthy seedling or small plant to soil. And they usually mean when the first fruit is ripe. They really try to stretch the number. I have seen claims of 45days to harvest for sungold tomato, which actually is more like 80days to get a decent harvest of fully ripen tomatoes. Before that, the germination and seedling stage could be 4 to 6 weeks depend on where you are, especially if you're starting indoor before the last frost. So you're looking at between 15 to 20 weeks total for tomatoes. Also they love to over saturate the color of the actual fruit or flower on their website....See MoreSilly question about plumbing fixtures
Comments (6)I say mix! When I bought for kitchen and bath I had 2 different sales reps tell me they liked Kohler best for bathroom and Delta best for kitchen. In the end I also liked the color choice in Delta for my kitchen faucet. Got Kohler for bath and I even mixed styles there. The style I liked best was very expensive so I got it on certain shower pieces where I didn't like the alternatives but went with a less expensive faucet and towel racks that match in color and compliment in style. In the end my bathroom has 3 different Kohler models/styles.. All the same color....I bet nobody even notices they're different....See MoreA silly question about gritty mix?
Comments (17)Laura Whole point of using gravely mix is to provide good drainage - just as plants would have in their habitat. Excess water will drain out, but some of it is held by the substrate - how much, it depends on type of it. I would rather 'waste' minute amounts of ferts in fertigating solution than have plant sitting in waterlogged soil. There shouldn't be too much fertilizer applied either, otherwise one would have plants that may not look even close to what they really look like naturally. They are not supposed to be overly fed, too big, growing too fast, almost like on steroids, haha. Most of recommendations are to use 1/2, 1/4 or even 1/8th of recommended dose, depending on frequency. And not everyone is fertilizing succulents, or only once, maybe twice a year. That would be very small amount of fertilizer even with many plants. You are very right saying that some adjusting is best according to growing conditions. And some products are more difficult to find, or could be expensive if lot is needed. I find perlite everywhere I look, but is much more difficult to get pumice. Bark of suitable size is also difficult to find - so I don't even use it in gritty mix....See Moredeanna in ME Barely zone 6a, more like 5b
