5 month old seedlings
Comments (41)I pinched a couple of my seedlings about a 3 weeks ago. They havnt shown any sign of branching yet and I am reluctant to pinch the others now. They all dont seem to be growing as fast anymore either. I also pinched my original seedling. It has started a side branch now but no other branches. I am worried this little guy will forever only be a one stem plant :( maybe in a zig zag shape after all my future pruning attempts? I did prune another one of my adeniums and it seems to be branching off good. At least 2 branches from beach pruned stem. I hope it keeps going. It will be a cute little guy and i wish to see the lovely black and red flowers again :)...See More2 week old Adenium Obesum Seedlings!
Comments (7)Rick, Thank you! I have already noticed some small differences. The first one that grew developed a reddish hue on the stem. I believe there are only one or two more with this trait right now. Bill, I plan on keeping 4 of them. And selling the rest, once I see them flower...which means it may be 2 or 3 years before that happens! I will also most likely trade them or give them away c: What are your plans? Which blooms will yours have? My blooms will look similar to these or a variation of these two......See MoreCacti Seedlings ~10 weeks old
Comments (6)Swiss, Next spring go to http://www.mesagarden.com and order some named seeds. He (Steven Brack) has a fantastic selection and good prices, also on the webpage he has some propagation tips. I try and start 72-144 different species at least twice a year and have fun doing it. Starting C&S form seed is most of the fun of having these wonderful plants :-) Nice looking plants you have. Comments (4)I have had by far the best luck with fish emulsion and also some seaweed does not hurt. But I go light on this. Just a little in the water. Much less than recommended. another trick is to make some compost tea with alfalfa pellets. This is the same thing as expensive superthrive. I am not positive but I believe Superthrive is simply very expensive composted alfalfa tea. I also use only rain water on small plants and all potted plants. I find this critical. The problem with dry powder chemical ferts is they are salts and the salt builds up in the soil. This can be dangerous if you have hard water or use it too often. You can buy powdered seaweed or kelp cheap as a fertilizer or horse feed. I think Fedco Seeds sells it real cheap below a dollar a pound. Learn to make your organic ferts for a penny on the dollar of what they sell you in the stores. For example you can purchase kelp or seaweed powder for $6 an ounce or for less than a dollar a pound. An ounce makes 30 gallons so they sell a lot of people. haha. see Burpee catalog. You can also buy the powder for $4 a pound in food grade in single pounds from Starwest Botanical in California. item # 201680-51 Here is a link that might be useful: powder low cost...See Moreaddicted2plants Southern IL USA
