Painting ceiling blue grey. Suggestions/thoughts?
Comments (25)I have both Gustavian Gray and Alex Blue on ceilings in my house. And a Martha blue at the summer place. I do love blue ceilings! I also have the GG in two other places on the walls. In one it is very pale blue. In the other, it goes more aqua. Never gray, but that's with the strong light of FL. One thing I will say is that my LR has the Alex Blue on the ceiling and I fell in love with F&B Light Blue (a very gray blue) and wanted to use it on the walls. Light Blue is a greener blue, while Alex is more violet (subtle, but its there) and those two blues didn't play nicely together. I think that (m)any light blue(s) will work, but only if you're not painting blue-ish walls. If you might paint blue walls, then you should consider carefully which pale blue you want for the ceiling. And I don't think one precludes the other. Very lovely ttodd and coleen, as usual!...See MoreBlue/gray stained cabinets instead of paint? Am I crazy?
Comments (17)lceh, I'm sorry I came late to this thread -- have you looked at the General Finishes dye stains? In terms of quality they're superior to the MinWax products and you might get a longer lasting finish from them? Then there's also milk paint, which is a fabulous cabinet finish topped with a good sealer. It's gorgeous. For anyone who is trying to "stain" their old cabinets and can't get all the previous coating off, this is a potential option. They make an additive that allows the milk paint to seal to previously-finished surfaces. Done this way, it's more opaque but has lots of natural tonal shadings that are the next best thing to a translucent stain. This is an old unfinished oak dresser I did, it's milkpainted white with gray stencils, but gives you the idea. (Driftwood plus Snow White and a little Slate gives you a perfect Gustavian Grey...) Whichever product you choose, they'll all look good -- have fun mixing! Here is a link that might be useful: Milk Paint...See MoreSelected a paint color.. but having second thoughts
Comments (17)Funky, We have warm oak flooring in our home & for our family room/kitchen we chose a RH color called Sea Green. It is a bluish green but greyed down a little. When we bought the house, they had a dog poo color (sorry, but that's what it looked like) on the walls in here. We changed that to yellow & chose wrong...too much green undertone, and just wasn't right. I struggled & struggled, and went with the Sea Green.. It is an easy color to live with, and easy to accessorize with other colors such as red, pink, green, rusts. Our sofa is a caramel (darkish) leather. Hope that helps....our color goes great with the wood floors. Our main living space has Devine Oak and it also is easy to live with and goes wellwith the floors. It would look great with your existing rug. RH also has some green/greyish paints that are nice. Our painter said it went on well, and so far so good with maintenance....See MoreSecond thoughts about Crema Honed Marble Subway 3x6 Backsplash
Comments (10)Choosing a backsplash has been torture! I am trying to flow with the Mascarello granite & not compete with it. The colors are impossible. I think the Crema marble is elegant, but is it too light, or too plain or too hard to keep clean? Any advice would be appreciated? I change my mind every 5 minutes, day & night!
