I'd like to find white dishes that will stay white!
Comments (28)I am reviving this thread, as I am looking to replace/upgrade my everyday stoneware dishes. Was thinking I wanted to get plain white, but while shopping did find I was drawn to the colourful stoneware dishes... Part of the reason I wanted to replace my current set was the grey (Now I know from cutlery) marks all over the dishes. From reading this post, I cleaned them all off with BKF, magic eraser didn't work at all. Totally amazed at how new they all look, but many of the plates have chips under the rims, so am going to buy new. After doing research on the web for a few days, it is not 100% clear how to avoid those cutlery marks on dinnerware, various opinions blamed the SS count, ie whether is was 18/10, 18/8 etc. I have a feeling it is the stoneware that marks up the most. My porcelain and my good china dishes aren't marked. DH says it's because they're not used as much. He's right, they don't get much use, but I'm wondering if those of you who DO use porcelain or bone china daily still get grey marks. To make it even harder, just got an email today that Ikea is putting their Fargrik 6 place setting stoneware set on sale for $19.99! Maybe I just buy 2 sets of that for now, and wait to fall in love with some coloured/patterned set and buy when it's on sale. Still won't address the grey cutlery marks......See MoreEveryday dishes - porcelain, bone china or Corelle
Comments (67)Excited to share that after much deliberation, GW thread reading, and sale price watching, my new everyday dishes have arrived. I decided to go with bone china, in the hopes that they would prove chip resistant, and grey cutlery mark resistant. I am so sick of those gray lines. I was also inspired that my two sets of pfaltzgraff dishes combined were down to 5 plates and 3 bowls. Comments from the family peanut gallery like 'why dont we ever have plates' pushed me to decision making 'code red'. I got a great deal at Macy's with a buy 1, get one place setting offer. I got 5 place settings of Lenox, Tin Can Alley 4 and five of Tin Can Alley 7. It also seriously considered Wedgewood Nantucket Basket but it is made in China and the Lenox is made in the US- clincher! The in-store price was less than the on-line price, and in-store still honored the bogo. Plus I got my 15% of macy's card discount. All told the 10 4 piece place settings delivered to my house came in at less than $350- I thought that was awesome. Now I can serve Thanksgiving in style! Last night we used the new dishes at dinner and it was lovely. The thinness of the china is a delight after heavy stoneware. It looks so pretty, even when dirty and loaded in the dishwasher. Thanks GW for inspiring, and educating....See MoreSturdy White Dishes
Comments (51)Corelle might not be the coolest kid in town but I happily ate off of them for 20 years. The only reason I gave them up was when I got into blogging and acquired a bedroom and half a garage full of dishes and such. So it's definitely not the money part; I'm looking for something that is light enough for me to move around by myself and that will fit into a compact space. I'm moving from a large house to a two bedroom condo where I will no outside storage or attic or any of that. Really that's what got me thinking about Corelle again. And I figured getting the white ones would be classic and go with everything. I went with the Corelle and went out today and got settings for eight for less than $100. I actually kind of feel like I'm "coming home again." I was never a dish snob until I got in to blogging. And what I ended up with are tons and tons of heavy dishes that take up a lot of space and are chipping left and right after only a couple years' use....See MoreFiestaware/Pfaltzgraff/Corelle
Comments (71)I moved into a new home 3 years ago and needed a set of everyday easy-care dishes for the kitchenette area. I collect Jadite Fire-King which is displayed in my white glass front cabinets. My counter tops are pale green Corian (Carribbean). I needed something to match those colors but didn't want anything with a strong statement. I ended up buying the Correlle "Pretty Pink" square pattern. I started with the basics and added over time, so it didn't put too much of a pinch on my budget. The colors look good in my kitchen and the Corelle is easy-peasy to take care of. Durable, dishwasher/microwave safe, light weight and with so many matching accessories, it has been a good investment for my kitchen. I use other various dish & china collections for my dining room. Best of luck in your decision. Buy one set of each and see how they look in your home, then return those that don't work for you....See Moresjhockeyfan325
