it sure looks like garlic to me. garlic bulbs form in the last 30 days and these look too small to be at the end. i have no idea what the story is in CA or what part of CA you are in. here garlic is planted from mid oct to mid nov and emerges about mid march. plants are mature and pulled about the last week in july. if you dug them in mid june i doubt you'd see any bulb so i suspect that is your case. tom

what i would call.. a wild grape ...??? [which i wonder about after googling barrons answer???? t] usually the fruit is rather small.. almost all seed ... and not worth much ... a bird probably planted it ... but maybe not .. does the neighbor on the other side of the fence have any knowledge ... maybe the prior owner did his own wine?? there is a fruit forum ... and that is where you might find some grape maven who can ID plants ... beyond our abilities .... ken
