Can anyone help me identify this plant?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, but have been gardening for some time. About 4 years ago, we bought our current home and have planted kitchen gardens in two separate areas. A few years ago, I noticed several of these plants springing up along the edges of my garden beds. I'm guessing the previous owners had planted them in the past.

The plants look and smell like a cross between garlic and chive, but have flat blades rather than the cylindrical/tubular chive. I've never seen them flower, so I don't know if/when they do.

Also, tried digging these up and didn't find any garlic attached, so what could they be? These things smell so good. I'd love to use them, but am unsure if they are edible.

it sure looks like garlic to me. garlic bulbs form in the last 30 days and these look too small to be at the end. i have no idea what the story is in CA or what part of CA you are in. here garlic is planted from mid oct to mid nov and emerges about mid march. plants are mature and pulled about the last week in july. if you dug them in mid june i doubt you'd see any bulb so i suspect that is your case.

These look like Chinese Chives (aka Garlic Chives) to me (see link below). I have garlic chives in a section of my herb bed. I'd post a picture don't have a current photo handy.

To saltcedar, Yup.. bt i really cant find any information about these few plants.. so i seek help from you all.. i just want to say i'm not lazy... i got do work before asking you all... It is an epiphyllum. There are many different varieties and they are widely discussed in the Cacti & Succulents Forum. Note that they are often called an "epi" for short. Carol Here is a link that might be useful:

what i would call.. a wild grape ...??? [which i wonder about after googling barrons answer???? t] usually the fruit is rather small.. almost all seed ... and not worth much ... a bird probably planted it ... but maybe not .. does the neighbor on the other side of the fence have any knowledge ... maybe the prior owner did his own wine?? there is a fruit forum ... and that is where you might find some grape maven who can ID plants ... beyond our abilities .... ken

Some Brachychiton (bottle trees) have similar leaves. There are hybrids offered, so I am not certain at this young age, and sans a flower photo, of a more specific id. Sometimes the leaves change form as the plant matures. I am more familiar with Brachychiton when they are mature. Or maybe someone has a completely different id idea.
