Which is the best Fiberglass window?

I'm currently getting estimates
for replacing windows in my 1938 house in Seattle. It has the original
77 year old single pane wood windows so anything I put in will be an
improvement at this point. Anyhow I've decided I like the look of the
fiberglass windows better than the vinyl so then the question I have is
which of these is the best window for me to go with: 1) Marvin Infinity,
2) Pella Impervia, 3) Milgard Ultra or 4) Andersen 100-series? I had
Renewal by Andersen out & they suggested their Series 2. I understand that who I have install the windows is an
important piece of the puzzle but I'm first trying to figure out which
windows to settle on. Thanks in advance for any input!

Andersen is not a fiberglass window. They call their product "fibrex" which is a blend of vinyl, wood and resins.

In my view, I don't see fiberglass having an aesthetic advantage over a high quality vinyl offering which look nothing like the cheap stuff everyone is so used to seeing at Home Depot and lowes. High quality vinyl also has a distinct performance advantage over fiberglass as well. The fact that you are in Wisconsin, you may want to get in touched with " Home Sealed ", they have a great reputation and do quality work. At the very least I would give them a call.

Looks like you have a really large porch off side, I actually like that you plan to connect it off those patio doors out of kitchen/dining area and give yourselves a small private balcony off master not connected to rest. Not sure what your weather is like but ours here does not justify a massive uncovered/unscreened/unenclosed deck (and to cover and screen all of it would be $$$$) and risks becoming more headache than pleasure, so I understand why you don’t want one. Plus the concerns about shading the future walk out basement. I don’t think you need to burn your house down :) I still vote Option 3 after seeing or understanding more of your overall short and long term plans.

The glass package that you have in your current windows is called heat-mirror. As you described there is a plastic film suspended between two lites of glass and that film has failed. I am somewhat surprised that anyone would suggest glass replacement in a sash that was originally configured for heat mirror, especially considering the age of those windows. I would suggest that in the long run the glass replacement option may end up costing you more than the window replacement option, but before you make your final decision make sure that you have several bids to consider.

I had the first window company visit the house yesterday. He referred to my existing “single strength” windows as “$3.00 windows” and said the installation was awful, it’s no wonder I hear so much outdoor noise. He feels the basic glass option from Marvin, with proper installation, will make a noticeable difference but based on my comments would recommend their sound reducing option. The second company I’m meeting with later this week was recommended to me by the local architectural rep from Marvin. Unfortunately, I’m already not feeling solid about this company. The salesman didn’t follow up with me during our first interaction and when I mentioned it, he placed blame on the Marvin rep. Also, when I told him I would be comparing him against other companies he started with the scare tactics about most local companies don’t have certified installers. Seems like a fast talker to me, which put me off. Will have more details about the windows later this week.

Pella Impervia should be tossed immediately, it's not worthy of consideration IMO.

Milgard is a fine product, as is Marvin Integrity (if it's the wood/ultrex version - the all Ultrex is too flimsy for me).

The Andersen 100 is quite attractive on the interior, not so much on the exterior. It's also quite limited on options.

We are in Seattle and are looking at windows for our project - all of the builders we interviewed spoke positively about Marvin Integrity and Marvin Ultimate, which we are leaning toward one of these, depending on budget. Will also look at Milgard Essence, which I understand will have a higher cost than Marvin Integrity but carry a longer warranty.

We have Marvin Infinity, and love them. We're in North Dakota, so energy efficiency was important. Ours has wood-look inside, which the company stained to match the rest of our woodwork - when they measured, they brought a sample of our trim back to the shop to get a good match (and succeeded).

My son mowed the lawn the day after the new windows were installed, and I thought it must be someone mowing 3 houses away. I hadn't thought about sound insulation, but that has been a major plus!

Ours have been in for 5 years, no problems whatsoever.
