Jelly didn't Gel....can I reprocess?

Finally, after waiting 5 years, my Nanking Cherries went wild and produced fruit like crazy!

So I decided to make jelly from some of them. I read several recipes/methods online and here is what I did.

I used 16 cups of fruit, put them in a pot with maybe 1-1/2 cups water, simmered and mashed the berries. Drained off the juice, put the pulp thru a mill to get more juice.

Returned to pot, added 8 c sugar and two envelopes of powdered pectin.

This morning I checked and I have cherry syrup, not jelly.

Can I reprocess? Should I add more pectin?

Or am I stuck with syrup?

Thanks! Linda
