Floor has to be sloped so water travels to the lowest point, must be that way. If remodelers' job scope did not include plumbing work, and let's say shower stall was made bigger, what used to be a centered drain will be no longer. They worked around existing plumbing. Grout discoloration may be from moisture retained after showering. If grout was not sealed, the grout will retain moisture at diff rates hence discoloration. You can ask them to apply sealer at any time but shower cannot be used for several days prior to ensure it is completely dry. Otherwise, you may seal in discoloration.

top fancy brown tile:. If bathroom was not square to start with, then it's possible that the tile strip wasn't a perfect match along top edge. It is hard to cut those strips so generally tilers compensate by adjusting grout line. An experienced tiler might have encouraged your aunt to apply decorative tile a foot lower, that way lack of squareness on bathroom wouldn't be so obvious. I think they did best they could. Problem may be that they weren't full professionals capable of pointing out those aesthetic considerations, but rather a "get a bathroom remodel for 99.99" type of contractor.

If they claim to be full service, auntie may be in trouble. She needs to have discussions with contractor to clarify job scope and rectify as/if needed.

Ventilation: not sure what you mean. Did you mean toilet ventilation? Something that existed and now covered?

Two issues here: if you have a specific vision you can hire mediocre labor and with CLOSE supervision get what you want. IOTOH you show up with a pic as your only input in the project, you'll need to hire the best, and by that I mean carefully research whoever you select. To come now and just say "fix it" without saying what you think is wrong and what should be there in its place is what I'd call unreasonable expectations. For example decorative tile on top edge of shower. Did remodeler just arbitrarily installed or he got homeowners blessing? Contractor should have discouraged by offer another decorative alternative. If owner's idea, then he's more accountable for correction costs.

Thirty minute-smooth flow remodel only happens on TV. It is good that niece is helping to ID probs or potential probs. owner needs to carefully review job scope and see what was included and what was not. A lot of these so called remodelers offer a new looking room w/o considering wiring, plumbing, water-proofing behind tile work, improved layout, etc and if owner not informed or hires strictly on low-cost, well...get ready for a nightmare. I know. Ive been royally screwed on some projects and delighted beyond expectations on others. My input as homeowner with finite funds was directly correlated to results.

This is not professional work-period. The only one of your concerns I can defend the contractor on is the drain not being centered with the tile. That can happen for a number of reasons, but the rest is inexcusable. The glass decos need to be replaced on their dime for sure. Lining the joints up horizontally from one wall to the next is just tile 101. The exposed outside cuts are a big no- no too.

The shower pan needs to be regrouted or color sealed as well. Hard to tell from the pics what caused that, but it obviously needs to be addressed.

My biggest concern, looking at their finish work, is how did they waterproof this thing, if at all.

Has your aunt taken any work in progress pics? If so, those would be very helpful.

I too worry about the waterproofing (if any) pictures of the job in progress will help.

Wow.. So sorry...these guys just don't have any clue, or desire to do good work. All that money and time spent on tile choices that we all agonize over... All that mess with the mosaics... So many issues there, but some commented on uneven walls. I believe a good tile man spends a good bit of first day measuring and laying things out seeing where they land, my guy needed to make up the difference from 1/2" tile to 3/8" mosaic. He didn't lay the mosaic swimming in thin set he used mud to make up the difference and let it dry overnight... I believe if these walls were so wonky the tile setters would have spent time making the walks right but it's obvious this was their first go at it. So sorry I hope one of the pros step up here to help you.

vent fans are required unless there is an operable window

There is a small window in the bathroom, so that would explain the lack of a vent fan.

Having a vent fan is still smart, IMO.
