Switches & Vanity Reface Opinions Needed - My 50's Bathroom Saga
Comments (16)Does it really matter if the 50's BR's didn't have shaker? If you like it, and you're going to the trouble of replacing doors, I would do whichever style you like best. Otherwise, why not just paint your 'real 50's' doors? You're not putting in 50's light switches, and I assume you're not putting in a 50's fan. Doesn't look like a 50's toilet... I actually like the look of the shaker style drawer front in your pic, even though I have shaker doors in my kitchen and went with slab on my smaller top drawers. Problem with the shaker drawer front, is I am not sure if you can put a handle in the middle part, is there enough wood? So, if you wanted to position your new knobs/handles in the middle that might be a deal breaker. I am not sure if this option would work for you, but in our Master BR we did not have enough space to put in a 4 gang box. I positioned 2 2 gangs one above the other. You could do 3 and 2, or 2 and 2 using one double. I put my two programmable switches (and I strongly recommend using a timer switch for your fan) together, and the light switches together. In your case, I would put the three light switches on one gang, and the fan and the outlet on the other....See MoreNew bathroom project using Mediterranean tile - need opinions!
Comments (15)Man, talk about fate! I just posted a blog on ceramic tile (thereÂs a link at the bottom of this, if youÂre interested), but it is a subject that I keep coming back to, because it is absolutely one of the best ways I know to dress up any bathroom, regardless of size. One of the things I find particularly frustrating when I contemplate our remodeling plans for our bathrooms is that they are both five-by-nine-feet wonders that are destined to remain that size because we are not willing to undergo the expense of the major remodeling that would be required to increase the size of these rooms. What this means, though, is that those glorious bathrooms that I am forever fantasizing over are destined to remain just that, a fantasy. But tile, as it turns out, comes in all sizes and shapes, and this is especially true in Europe. Italy is home to all kinds of creative people who do wonderful things with kitchen and bathroom designs that I think are worth writing about, even though we Americans are not likely to send away for their products. But it helps to know about designs that are different than those we normally see in this country. But the one item I would seriously consider sending away for is Italian tile. I have seen tile that looks like slate or marble or a kind of brick-like building material. And I have seen these tiles decorated in all kinds of designs that are nothing short of stunning. TodayÂs blog deals with tile that has been made to look like a volcanic lava run! I think the choice you made with your tile is certainly a cut above the usual hum drum, but you might also want to consider some of ItalyÂs output. Really, theyÂre more than bathroom tile. TheyÂre a revelution. Here is a link that might be useful: Cabinet & Furniture Trends & Information...See MoreNeed an extra outlet in the bathroom and want some opinions
Comments (8)The more i research this, the more a 3 gang box sounds like a better idea. Thanks guys. Would a 3 gang box screw into the 2 X 4 stud and still have enough support for an in wall night light / recepticle / switch? The stud is on the right side of the box so if i kept the nightlight to the far left i shouldn't have too much of a problem with the box flexing when pushing and pulling plugs from the center recepticle. Or would a 3 gang old work box work better?...See MoreQuick question and opinions needed for bathroom mirror..
Comments (1)It looks nice, much better than the basic mirror finish with a polished edge. Just put the same cover on the other side and you have a nice finish. That said if the if they made the mirror wider it would overhand the counter and it would look odd. To avoid that that outlet should have been moved to avoid the cut out and the other one should also be on the side wall to avoid any mirror cut-outs, most builders do that in situations like this....See Moreshelbyroo
