Need help with floor tile for new kitchen
Comments (8)I don't think you need dark flooring just because you have white cabinets. If you google "grey tile with white cabinets" you can find examples of various shades of grey tile paired with white cabinets (found several on Houzz right off) to see what appeals to you. Personally, I like it, but I'd also like it if the flooring was just a tad darker, but not so dark that it clashes with the adjacent dark wood flooring....See MoreNew kitchen flooring help
Comments (3)We went with a cheap sheet vinyl for our kitchen - huge traffic area, and its been a year and we absolutely love it - put down a new plywood subfloor and used the tape down method and love it - easy to clean, not grout lines and no problems - was going to get an $$$, but couldn't decide and need to get something and the plan was to change it out but this grew on me. I'd do a sheet over tiles so you don't have the space inbetween the tiles, but that would just be my choice - with the tape method, its easy to replace if it gets worn or you get tired of it....See MoreNew Kitchen Light & Dining Room Flooring Help
Comments (3)Don’t try to put up another tacky fluorescent light fixture. If you want to DIY your only option may be an LED track light of some kind, but you’d really be better off doing as Karen suggested and getting an electrician in to put in some LED cans. As for flooring, it looks like more laminate bits up against the kitchen “tile” laminate so unless you want to continue the laminate/wood into the kitchen your only option (short of replacing the flooring throughout the whole house) is to put in porcelain or ceramic tile (NOT wood-look/like)....See MoreHelp with kitchen backsplash ideas that don't clash with new floor
Comments (240)What a charming house! You've done great. I had somehow missed this thread up to this point, and I did not read all (or even a significant fraction) of the previous responses. I have a 1910 house and also don't like subway tile. But I wanted something that fit the era of the house. I ended up going with a simple (and extremely cheap) 4x4 white field tile capped with a contoured molding tile (that almost but doesn't quite match the field tile because I couldn't find a molding I like from the a manufacturer that did a 4x4 field tile that was 4x4 rather than 4.25 x 4.25. Adds to the charm). I have very few uppers, though. I think a 4x4 white (or gray, since you seem to think white is too stark) field tile with black or charcoal pencil liner would be cool. These all show a pencil liner with subway because that's what the popular kids are doing, but it would work as well with a 4x4 or other basic field tile....See Moremelle_sacto is hot and dry in CA Zone 9/
