Need help with floor tile for new kitchen

Hi everyone, I found this forum a few weeks ago when we decided to start our kitchen remodel and it has been very helpful so far.
We are remodeling our townhome kitchen which is the original cabinets (23 years old).

We already ordered the cabinets: Linen White Shaker style by American Woodmark.

We also picked out our granite slab: Alaska White.

For the backsplash, I think we're going to do the Rixi Grazia crackle subway tile in the Mandorla color.

However, I'm having trouble with the floor tile. We had picked out a wood look porcelain tile that is one of the colors in the granite but I'm afraid it's going to be too light. Almost every picture I see of a white kitchen has dark wood floors. Our living room which connects directly to the kitchen has dark hardwood floors that we put in less than a year ago which is making my decision even more difficult. I definitely don't want hardwood floors in the kitchen which is why we went with the wood look porcelain but should I look at a slightly darker color? Or maybe something completely different?

I need advice and suggestions.

This picture shows part of our granite slab with the 6x24 floor tile and the subway tile for the backsplash. The white cabinet door is not our door but a sample from a different company I took with me just to compare.

I like the flooring that you picked out, but you might want to compare it with something a little darker just to see if you like that better. I like the idea of a lighter porcelain against the dark wood that you already have on your other floors. I don't have white cabinets (light cherry), but both my backsplash and floor are light tile ... I like it.

I would be wary of the vinyl planks as they can be slick, especially when wet. Scatter rugs on vinyl are exactly that...scattered around, slid somewhere you don't need them. We recently did a living room and hall with the vinyl flooring from Home Depot and the flooring is surprisingly slick, noticeably more than the oak floors in the dining room or the sheet vinyl in the kitchen. I normally wear soft soled shoes but had on a pair of boots with a harder sole and nearly fell on my rear just running into the room to grab something. I have solid rubber floor tile and also cork tile in my basement and I would pick either of them over vinyl for a kitchen. I do like the vinyl and will use it again just not in a kitchen.

Cork is a body's best friend. You can choose between click together flooring (faster to install but needs some help to make it water resistant at the seams) or a glue down tile ($$$ install/materials/+++time) but will become a permanent water proof solution when done properly. Remember: cork and linoleum change colour as they age (fading). Both take a bit of maintenance (which is the trade off for feeling better) and both can last a lifetime (when properly installed and properly maintained). Please assess whether or not you can handle (personality wise) the changes cork/lino will go through during their lifespan. If some fading of a natural product (especially cork) is something that doesn't bother you, then have a long hard look at cork. It is used in old age care homes because it prevents slips/falls and it prevents broken bones should a resident slip and fall. And then there is the quiet and the warmth under foot. Cork is cool....but it is quirky. You need to be ready for quirky.

@herbflavor Thank you for your comment! I have also considered hardwood floors in the kitchen, but I am loving the idea of tile in here to give the space a European vibe, if that makes sense. We have radiant heat on our first floor so I love the feel of the heat underfoot on the tile...just a personal preference. The floor to ceiling inset cabinetry flanking the doorway to the mudroom is original and in wonderful shape so we will be keeping those. They will be painted to match the new cabinetry. Unfortunately the island, desk and the cabinetry on the opposite wall are in terrible shape and will be replaced. We are flip flopping the location of the stove and sink and the fridge will also move so we need new cabinetry anyway. The entire first floor including the mud room hall will be getting new paint (Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee or White Dove) so the rooms will lighten up considerably. We are also adding vertical paneling under the shaker peg rail in the mudroom to add some architectural detail.

I don't like wood-look tile right next to hardwood. I'd use a large format square or rectangle tile.

That's a good point, may_flowers. I ruled out wood-look porcelain in my kitchen for that very reason. Not to say it couldn't be done successfully, but I didn't know how to pull it off.

Same here. I think you'd be setting them up for comparison by putting them side by side, when the purpose of the wood look is to fool the eye.

I think my main issue is the color of the tile with the white cabinets. Will the light color tile look good (not necessarily wood look)?

I don't think you need dark flooring just because you have white cabinets. If you google "grey tile with white cabinets" you can find examples of various shades of grey tile paired with white cabinets (found several on Houzz right off) to see what appeals to you. Personally, I like it, but I'd also like it if the flooring was just a tad darker, but not so dark that it clashes with the adjacent dark wood flooring.
