What Do You Do When You Can't Sleep...
Comments (22)Reading all your messages has been like hearing the latest updates on my three sisters. That's a compliment and sincere thank you. Crohn's disease, Graves disease, fibromyalgia and arthritis (Rheumatoid/Osteo)have reared their ugly heads among my 3 sisters but left me inexplicably unscathed. The family is an autoimmune minefield...LOL. After the ONE night I went home to get some sleep I came back to my father's house to find 2 cars and no father. When your 82 year old father is MIA without explanation you naturally worry. Turns out he had a second serious bout of Atrial Fibrillation and went to the hospital without telling me. Ask me if I wasn't feeling guilty for leaving him and upset with him for not calling me. He didn't want to interfere with me taking my best friend to a colonoscopy appointment Monday AM. I didn't sleep again Monday or Tuesday nights but got a couple hours sleep earlier tonight when I landed back at my father's with Pop in tow from hospital/cardiology office. No Coumadin yet until results of 3 week montoring device show if he's having small episodes of A-Fib when he gets chest tightness on treadmill at gym. Coumadin and exercised induced symptoms are the worst for him. He's extrememly active physically (so he doesn't fall asleep!) although we're having memory issues. Well, I've whined again but it feels better to get it out. I went outside yesterday at first light to rake and do a little garden clean up. It was glorious and relaxing. If all stays well for next week or so I'll have cooked my 5th Thanksgiving dinner and actually gotten somewhat used to it. Part of family will be here and Dad can have his turkey dinner without dietary restrictions of blood thinner. He's all about his food but luckily for me not picky...LOL. All in all, I'm a pretty lucky chickadee tonight. :) Good wishes for all of your health challenges as well. I think I'm going to get some Lavender heat wraps to relax me when I'm exhausted but can't sleep....See MoreI can't sleep so I'll post pics.

Comments (6)thanks everyone. Now, I'm not so afraid of being unable to force them to go dormant. Hope I can have succces with cuttings in March. Am a bit afraid of taking cutting of non-dormant plant, white sap dripn all over. I suppose I let the wound callous before I repot (but that's another question). To Chuy415, welcome to cold & dry Utah. Growing things here is really different than rest of the country. But it's still possible. I even have a dwarf Valencia orange tree I got at nursery in CA. Carried it back in car. Keep it inside for 8-9 months of year (just like plumies), then it goes outdoors for the summer. I get blossoms about Christmas time. with the Plumies in Utah--I'm sure there will be some shock. Make certain they are transported in such a way that they don't get too cold. Once here, you'll probably be able to put them outside, without threat of snow, in June. If you want to put them out earlier, watch weather, make sure you don't leave them out over-night. And it is so dry here, misting the leaves is helpful. Hope u enjoy the mountains. thanks again everyone....See MoreHP box can't wake from sleep or turn on from off initially
Comments (18)You probably know this but the power buttons are usually "programmable" so to speak. They can either be set to "Put to sleep" or "Power off" when pressed. I've seen it where they're set to "Put to sleep", and I've thought the computer was off, but it was actually in Sleep mode, and came right out of sleep when pressed again. I have to remember to hold the Pwr button down for 4 seconds to make it actually power off. That the monitor won't come out of sleep is a little mysterious but somehow telling - but of what I'm not totally sure. It needs to get a signal from the mobo, but the mobo needs to get power from the PSU. So which one is causing the problem ? Hard to say. What if you use the Linux live cd, and choose "Restart" - will it then restart ? But that would only rule out some kind of problem with your Windows OS, and we're not thinking that's the problem anyway. The thing about putting a drive in a new computer, is that the mass storage drivers are loaded very early on, and that's what a "universal restore" feature is made to handle. All the other hardware will probably be identified in the boot process, and if the necessary drivers are not found, you can install them later. But there's usually no easy way to do that for the mass storage drivers as it just won't boot to the point that you would have an option to supply the correct ones. If you want to install Win7 on a different machine, there is a tricky way to capture all the Win7 install boot info necessary, even though it's an OEM install for that particular machine. I can give you the links if you're interested. I had to do it, although it was on the same machine I think, but a fresh install. It was a situation where I had a laptop with no install disks, and had to use a generic Windows install disk. Yeh, the live Linux distros are fun. I just made a little bootable MicroSD flash gizmo with Debian, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mint, Pupply, and Knoppix, plus a whole bunch of other utility cds using a multiboot builder called Sardu. It really works well - boots anything on the MicroSD easily. Sardu Multiboot Creator Very handy, and gave one to my nephew as well....See Moretibbrix
