Best Birds Ev-ver! Purple Martins

I have chicks up to my cheeks! (The ones I smile with!)

I have big, fat, older chicks.

I have big, fat, younger chicks.

Gourd 10 holds two big, fat, just-hatched-today chicks - and one egg that should hatch tomorrow!

What an age range!

I removed two bad eggs.

The 12 active nests have a total of 60 - yes SIXTY - big, fat, babies - and the last egg expected to hatch tomorrow. Of course, I know better than to count my Purple Martins before they hatch.

Of my personal-best, record-breaking, three nests with 7 eggs each - two of those nests now have 7 big, fat, (can we see a trend here?) chicks each.

The third seven-egger nest now has 6 big, fat, chicks. I removed the one obviously bad egg. It had a rudimentary embryo that had stopped developing when it was no more than 3-4 days along.

There was not one mite to be seen; the nests are dry and incredibly clean, and the chicks truly are the fattest, quietest, and most content batch I've ever had.

I will do nest changes Sunday or Monday, just because I should. I'll wait 'till my little friend is visiting her Grandma across the street so she can help. I'll have updated photos then.
