Help with bathroom remodel - add shower to tub
Comments (5)Here's the post I put on the bathroom forum (including the picture): Hi All, We have a grand old 1860s Italianate house with an absolutely atrocious master bath. We are planning a modest remodel hoping to get the most bang for the buck. One issue (of many) that we are facing is that while the tub is not a clawfoot, it was never used for a shower. We'd like to keep the tub but add a shower somehow. We realize that this also means tiling the walls around the tub and doing something at the far end of the tub to make sure that the water doesn't spray into the rest of the room (since the tub is only enclosed on 2 sides). I'd love to hear ideas and see pictures of similar remodels! Here's a pic (don't laugh...we are not responsible for any of the decorating choices)....See MoreSmall bathroom/laundry combo layout.
Comments (2)Congratulations on building your new, small home! Our family of four just moved into our 1200 sq ft house. We chose to put our laundry in our main bathroom (with a shower); we were able to eek out a second bath with a tub. The shower stall is a Fiber-Fab model 38 and we are very pleased with it and totally recommend. I insisted on a side by side washer and dryer so I can have a shelf above them for three baskets to sort the dirty laundry. Our's was a total gut renovation that stayed in an existing footprint, but I'll include our drawings here in case it helps you. We've been here for about 6 weeks and we are very very happy with the floor plan. We are doing our best to be very discerning about what we bring in to the house and so our furnishings and 'things' are very minimalist right now, but everyone who visits comments how spacious it feels. Our master bedroom is pretty big (we have a king size bed and still have a lot of space left.) If I could allocate some master bedroom footage and the little mudroom footage to the kitchen, I think it could be perfect, but we did the best with dimensions we had. If you have any questions, let me know. I love talking small-house building :-)...See MoreCombing Laundry and Bathroom in small room!
Comments (10)I'm retired and I've always had an interest in house plans. We built a home 15 years ago that I planned out and just loved. The planning was fun, but the decision making when building was not! I like function, good looks and efficiency. We've since moved and we miss that home, but I like gardenweb for all the various ideas and it has been a great help when redoing parts of our new to us home. You seem to have a lot of good ideas too and when my daughter decides to redo her kitchen, I hope you'll be around to help. At the rate she's going I hope I'm around to see it done!...See MoreHelp with floorplan for Laundry Room - Office - Guest Half-bathroom
Comments (27)Do you have an elevation drawing of that stairwell in the living area? Seems the space under the stair landings could be better incorporated in your effort to locate the powder room, or at least the hot water, accessing from the closet by the entry and moving the sloset to the living room side. On another subject, am I mis-reading or are there bi-fold doors by the tub in the main bath? Looks like there are windows in the WIC. I would rather have windows in the bath and walk through the closet to get there than have to walk through the bath to retrieve clothing; not convenient if there is someone using the bath. That pantry at the foot of the stairs looks like a good spot for a stacking WD. I'd want it configured to vent out an exterior wall, using pullout pantries in the kitchen so that space could be the laundry. But first I'd move that big bath's footprint to the deck end of the space so the closet could be in the master....See Morerebeccamomof123
