Just an fyi. Back in the 80's everyone had white pickled oak floors. Granted they didn't hold up that well but a brown color will be timeless. While this color is gorgeous, I think once the gray trend has passed, this color will be passe. It's easier to change a cabinet color, or even a countertop. to change floors throughout a home is a big job. So is refinishing them.

Now having given you an unwanted opinion, I think beachem had a good idea. Or if you want to go really dramatic, I'd do white with black. For something different, do black cabinets with white counters, or the reverse.

Me too! And I definitely think so, up to a point. I personally wouldn't put it with something super light. (though some would, it is sorta personal) I could see it with the floor you posted.

Absolutely. How busy a floor are you looking for? What about a light maple floor? Here are three I just pulled from the net. truly floor color is a neutral. You can pretty much put any floor color with anything else and make it work. (Well maybe not a floor with too much red in it.)

Do you want painted or stained cabinets? Are you planning on a more contemporary kitchen or??? What style of door?

Oh those are my favorites. Full overlay on frameless cabinet boxes. Wider rails on the doors? that's what I'm going to do for my kitchen.

I think the third floor (maple) still hints at what you were after but it still reads more "brown" or neutral, so it wouldn't put someone off in 7-10 years. I believe that's armstrong engineered hardwood in their natural finish. Actually I had that color in my last apartment which was a new built contemporary. the color worked with everything!

Personally I would stay away from thermafoil. they look plastic and about 10 years ago were done on very cheap cabinets. I would pick a painted finish over thermafoil.

What colors do you personally like? If you are really going to use this kitchen you will be seeing the color every day. Pick something you really like!

If you want the grey veins, check out Neolith. They are slabs of porcelain that mimics marble incredibly well. It's a good alternative if you're afraid of the etching that real marble tend to get.

I disagree that light flooring will go out of style. The key is to create a harmonious blend. If you look at Scandinavian design, they have whitewashed wood floors that are hundreds of years old and look beautiful with neutral decor. I would have gone with light wood floors if not for the function issues - possible water damage and heavy wheelchair traffic. I went with stone instead.

I'm not saying light colored wood flooring will go out of style, but the gray trend is a dated trend. Scandinavian floors tend to be the natural color which is the third sample I showed Sherry.

have you ever lived in a space with a large amount of grey......I think it needs warm-up counterpoint surfaces adjacent. Perhaps a warmer shade of gray with some taupe rather than the steel-cold look . problem is, with that cold shade of gray and then white with dark wood you sometimes get an uninviting feeling. Just choose the shades that make it feel engaging and not repelling. In truth, the cabinets will be your biggest expense, I would search out what you want in that category, keeping in mind the greyish floor...there are a lot of floor products...but the cabinets and their style and stain vs paint/ etc... is a laborious process.

I'm with cpartist on the bleached vs naturally light floors. Check for Scandinavian kitchens to find inspirations. Maybe something like Nordic Oak.

I ripped out my inherited brown floors because I hated them :-P I changed everything to a cool colour scheme, and grey is my favourite colour. I like those floors, very Scandinavian. I like bright and airy spaces. It is good to add some warmth with natural materials, butcher block, plants etc.

We live near the beach and I wanted something light and airy. This is in my bedroom it actually has a grey tint to it which does not show up in the photo. It has the wire brush effect and is oak. This is wood but there are a lot of really nice looking wood look tiles.

I think Stephanie brings up a good point. She LOVES grey. If you love gray (and I mean not because it's the in color right now but you've always been drawn to shades of gray) then I say go for it. Especially if you have no plans of moving in the next 10 years.

However if you are choosing the gray because it's what is being seen all around (like in RH which started the trend), and you've become "accustomed" to it, sort of like in the 60's we became accustomed to nehru suits and avocado green appliances, then I'd say go instead with something more neutral and bring in the grays in the other areas.

Also, it may be the photo, but Stephanie's floors have a hint of gray but look more like a natural floor than one that was stained with gray. Beautiful kitchen btw!

that grey flooring is gorgeous! it reminds me of the flooring that is used on "flip or flop" frequently (they go laminate though ) the wife, Christina does some really awesome kitchen combos, a lot of white cabinetry with whitish tops, sometimes marble, sometimes Quartz. maybe watch a few shows online/on demand to get a feel.

ps I have just put in dk cherryish cabinets that do not look good with any wood look laminates I have found. I am in love with the grey too and probably going that route despite the trendiness
