Comments (14)Party at roses4ever's house! ; ) Now whatever happened to Steve Scanniello? Sure, he invites us to prune his roses on Easter weekend last year, of all weekends, and then disappears. I've noticed a phrase coined around some of these forums "the pot ghetto" - don't know when that started because I haven't been hopping around here but (getting to the point) I have what I will now call a "rose ghetto", lots of roses waiting to be trained, sprayed or something! Roses4ever, yours look great and might get me off my b*tt to do something about mine. Datdog, I think I might have posted this already but I did manage to find an escargot this year. Doesn't look anything like yours yet. Steve, have you noticed Phytolacca americana "Melody" at Seneca Hill?...See MoreNeed to vent about cabinet guy--wwyd (long post)
Comments (13)I imagine you want to throttle him. Arriving to his place to find out he is weeks behind. You kept your cool far better than I would have. I have a temper when someone tells me a date, time or place and they don't come through. I don't think he is trying to take advantage of you.It sounds like he is more of an artist than a business man and okay maybe a little ADD or "Executive Functioning" issues. Would you rather have a talented creative artistic cabin.et maker who is a little behind and disorganized but makes beautiful stuff? Or A perfectly on time cabin,et maker who over charges and makes cabinets that are iffy, blah, average joe nothing special? After you decide which you prefer, Take a deep breath and take everything down to a snail's pace. This is hard to do. I speak from experience. And either work with him or let him go. My instinct says work with him. Your kitche.n will happen. It may take a little longer and you have every right to be frustrated. I know I would be. Plan on pushing him gently along to get what you want. He sounds little disheveled, disorganized but wanting to do a good job. And check out what he has done so far. Do you like it? Is it worthy? And if all else fails use the fact that he is late to your advantage. When it comes time to paying him remind him that he was late and that you had to take time out of your life to wait for those cabinets. Time is money and you need a discount. The important part here is you are not alone. Give your self kudos and pat yourself on the back because I know if it were me I would want to kick his keister. : ) ~boxer...See MoreVenting about my new micro OTR vent
Comments (9)Yes, plenty of reasons to really really dislike the dang thing! It's a MONSTER! You can see from the elevation below (sorry for the hand drawing) that there are only about 12.5" of wall before the South-facing window begins. From GardenWebPics The OTR thing blocks a lot of light, and now I am completely flummoxed as to how to design the uppers. Am very close to going back to ditching the vent entirely and just using the window and old fashioned through-the-wall fan which is over the back door. Comments (32)My DD informed me this morning that a long stretch of counter at the back of the kitchen would look "weird" and just get covered with stuff, THE NERVE! It's like she knows me or something. It's weirder to have a long, useful counter cut in two by a vertical element. Show her the NKBA guidelines--a budding kitchen designer is never too young to learn. ;) Guideline #3 (In part): A major appliance and its surrounding landing/work area form a work center. The distances between the three primary work centers (cooking surface, clean-up/prep primary sink, and refrigeration storage) form a work triangle. Guideline #4: A full-height, full-depth, tall obstacle should not separate two primary work centers. (Examples of a full-height obstacle are a tall oven cabinet, tall pantry cabinet, or refrigerator) If the oven cabinet is directly adjacent to the fridge, it becomes part of that work center--you move items from the fridge to the counter beside the ovens, then have a clear field to the cooktop. That long counter would be useful for staging baking trays for making cookies, lining up and landing multiple dishes going to/from the ovens for large holiday meals, and assembling school and work lunches....See Morecluelessincolorado
