Tub, shower and double vanity in tight space
Comments (14)Hi I finally got my key a couple of days ago. So yes the plan I posted is a mirror image. I forgot that there is a door to the closet. I wonder if I close up the door, and move the door next to the toilet bowl, and remove the door for the toilet bowl, if that will work. But it might be weird to have the entrance to the closet next to the toilet. I got some better measurements. The length of the tub is 62". But there is 2 inches of wall on one side of the tub, which I think is hollow. I don't know why it isn't flush with the wall where the doors to the closet and toilet are. The width of the tub from the wall backing is 41". From that same wall to the side of the vanity is 58". To the side of the cabinet is 59". I am tempted now to put a 59" x 32" tub (or maybe a 60"!?) next to the vanity (along the same wall), and I will have 32" to work with for a wall in shower on the doors side? Or any suggestion would be good. Few days ago, I came up with this: From forums But I think this is going to cost big time, involing moving the toilet, and half of the vanity, redoing the floor, wall, etc. And I don't know if the entrance to the closet would be too small (3 feet). By the way, I don't know how the DWV plumbing is run. Any thing I need to look for?...See MoreNeed planning help for BR#3 Tub deck and linen tower?
Comments (19)Tub picked, now on to faucets! Yikes, sticker shock...all the money I saved on the tub, (can't believe I'm spending ~2.5K and thinking I'm saving money!), I'm going to have to spend to buy roman tub filler and sink faucet? What flow rate should I be looking for? Tub capacity is 50 US gal, so far faucets have been either 9gpm or 18gpm? It would seem 18gpm is more desirable, DH seems to think I can't get a waterfall type if I want water coming out full force, guess the plumbing supply places might know this answer...any of you experts out here care to weigh in? This is brand new territory for me! Is there any reason NOT to get a single hole roman tub filler? Then I would just have one thing to reach for and of course a hand shower, though not clear yet on how I get the water turned on to the hand shower? Lotteryticket...you are NOT helping! LOL If you only knew how badly I would like a fireplace! We gutted our LR, oh 7 years ago, and have a gaping hole where the old FP used to be...am also beginning to plan finishing off that space! The music idea also appeals to me though I wonder if I could hear it over the air jets, they are supposedly noisy...I have also wondered how stereos in hot tubs work...? ineffable... a mirror would be nice and could reflect more light into the room too, and I'm sure the neighbours would love to see more of me...JK...LOL 7 years ago Last Christmas temp mantle until this whole wall is is completed with built-ins, this year, BR vanity is sitting there...sigh......See MoreWalk in shower vs. footed tub?
Comments (23)Wrighthouse, thanks. Since I've never used the tub (or shower) in the bathroom attached to the bedroom, I'm used to walking down the hall to take a bath every night. That's no hardship. I don't mind that. I just want to do what is best design-wise, with the space. Down the road, will future buyers go oooh & ahhh over the thought of a super-spacious shower, since most of America showers?? If so, it's worth the investment, & worth me walking down the hall to bathe. If not, then I should think about other options. Thanks for your input!...See MoreAdvice on tub/shower plumbing setup
Comments (0)Redoing a small bathroom used by two small children, and would appreciate suggestions for the tub/shower plumbing set-up. My apologies if I'm not using terminology correctly. (This whole plumbing thing is like so many other fields - the concepts are easy, but learning the vocabulary is hell!) Right now, we primarily use it as a tub, with a cheap hand-held shower screwed into the shower arm. The oldest kid (6 yrs old) would like to start taking her own showers on occasion, but the showerhead is too high for her to reposition. I'd like something practical and a little more elegant looking. I'm looking at several options: 1. I could go with a tub spout and a slide-bar mounted handheld shower. But thinking down the road when the kids are older, I don't think it's wise to tile the area and not include a shower arm. Can the hose for the handheld shower be attached to a short shower arm? I don't like the after-market look of a handheld shower screwed into the usual 6-inch shower arm. Also not sure I like having even a slidebar. 2. I've also thought of having a tub filler, fixed showerhead, and a handheld shower wall-mounted down near the tub filler. Cleaner-looking to me than a slidebar. I'd need a 3-way diverter if I went this route, right? 3. I really like the clean lines (not the price, though) of a product like the Axor Starck X wall-mount tub filler with handheld, or some of the Dornbracht products. But since these all have volume controls on the spout, how do I combine this with a fixed showerhead? Do I need a diverter, or could the plumber just make a T in the cold and hot water lines, and run one end of each to the tub filler and one to the shower control? If I need a diverter for the shower, then if I want a bath wouldn't I need to turn on the water back near the divertor, and then turn it on at the tub filler? Also, I've seen a product sold at www.expressdecor made by Kraus of brass(or so it is claimed) for cheap ($60). Too good to be true? Has anybody ever ordered from them, or seen this product? 4. Last but not least, I could get a tub spout with a side outlet, and add a handheld and a wall mount. But the only spouts that I have found are not very attractive. What have any of you done, and extra points (well, at least extra appreciation) if you could post a photo? What should I definitely NOT do?? Thanks in advance for any thoughts....See Moreenduring
