Walk in shower vs. footed tub?
Comments (23)Wrighthouse, thanks. Since I've never used the tub (or shower) in the bathroom attached to the bedroom, I'm used to walking down the hall to take a bath every night. That's no hardship. I don't mind that. I just want to do what is best design-wise, with the space. Down the road, will future buyers go oooh & ahhh over the thought of a super-spacious shower, since most of America showers?? If so, it's worth the investment, & worth me walking down the hall to bathe. If not, then I should think about other options. Thanks for your input!...See MoreConsidering changing from tub to shower on remodel-should I?
Comments (9)Who will be using that bathroom? My oldest took baths exclusively until he was six. My youngest is still taking only baths at five. So ideally, I'd have a tub in bathrooms used by kids. I know you said your kids are gone, but do you have visitors with kids or grandkids now or potentially soon? For resale, if I had kids and was looking to buy I'd prefer a house with a tub in the bathroom used by the kids, rather than storing their toys in my bathroom and having them troup into my bathroom. Same with a guest bathroom, it would be nicer to have the ability to bath my kids and I would definitely not want to impose on my host to use the master bathroom. On the other hand, if the bathroom will be used primarily by elderly visitors, a walk in shower would probably be better. This is very much guessing, but I'd think cost is probably a wash? The tub will be more expensive in materials but cheaper in labor. If you go with the inexpensive kohler cast iron tub available at Home Depot, you are probably ahead of a tiled shower floor in cost? The tub is definitely cheaper than a cast iron shower base....See More10'x5'8 Bathroom Layout
Comments (8)@emilyam819 I thought about doing that but really don't want to have plumbing on an exterior wall here in Maine. This is a first floor bathroom so all the plumbing is easily accessible from below so moving the shower bath and toilet won't be too big of a headache! @jackowskib I'm personally not crazy about pocket doors but that would be a really good option for someone that likes them! I'm thinking a door stopper will be just fine to prevent the door from hitting the toilet and that there should be enough room to not be overly obstructive. It also makes walking in on someone a little less embarrassing since the door doubles as a privacy barrier....See MoreTub to Shower conversion and I widened the shower by 2 inches.
Comments (7)Thank you. Yes I have the hand held diverter in the wall. I will chill out and place the hand held vertical bar to the left of the shower head. That will work. My hand held diverter is on the lower right side as I planned it on the right originally but I think it will work out fine. Thank you all for the immediate responses. Also you are right it will only be off by one inch. It looks like more so maybe the shower opening ended up a bit larger?(I am not in the same city to measure the width) In any event by the time the shower glass is installed etc. I know it will be fine. Thank you all again....See MoreRelated Professionals
