Comments (8)just for clarification.. you are going to a REGIONAL ... the convention is up in the great white north this year ... regardless ... i agree.. stay where its all happening .... and try to get there a day or two early.. to see some of the optional gardens.. if your enabler has a car ... if you are going to go that far.. may as well go beyond simply what is offered ... pretty sure jims hosta is in IA.. as well as Josh's place ... though i have no clue how far from the regional ... and a few other places ... ken...See MoreMidwest Regional Hosta Convention
Comments (10)Bumping this up.... Chris and Josh we will see you in Des Moines! Still not to late to sign up. After seeing all of Paul's National convention photos (by the way excellent job of sharing photos Paul!), it is making me excited about the convention. Will be working at the registration table, so stop and say hi...:) Also we were going to be on the optional tour, but after mom's sudden passing in late April decided there would not be enough time in the gardens. Well long story short, our neighbor David who is on the optional tour wrote in his article that 'Bruce and Trudy' may share their gardens if you just ask! So I guess we are on the optional tour after all, just not in the program. So stop on by Sunday after the convention....we will be glad to show everyone our hosta seedlings!...See MoreMidwest hosta convention
Comments (4)There were significant amount of new intro and old "must haves"- vendors did great presentation. Many plants were pricey, which is no surprise. Since I have been lucky to live within driving distance to excellent nursery- Sunrise greenhouses in Grant Park, IL, it has been main source of hostas in my garden. Prices are very very decent. It also does not help that I garden on a regular suburban plot and after one reaches about 250 hostas, space becomes a premium ;( here the link to hosta supply http://www.woldhuisfarms.com/hostas1.htm...See MoreWelcome me back to the world of hosta gardening!
Comments (15)Reading your post brought me back to a difficult several years in my life. Everything took a back seat while family illness and death took over. I needed to reshuffle everything I considered important in my life, and gardening just didn't seem that important anymore. I, like you, felt that I was FAILING! What I am trying to say is that it may be your time to reshuffle your priorities. If you have gone back to work and will not have summers off, then maybe you want to give some thought as to how much time you can realistically spend on your garden. That way you can perhaps not feel so overwhelmed. Decide what brings you the greatest joy---having a well tended garden; acquiring new hostas, etc? Also, do you have a young person who can do some weeding for you for a few bucks? That way you could get your weeding done faster and be happier with your garden. I think you are just in the "readjustment" period when you need to prioritize and reshuffle your time due to your going back to work. I believe that you will find and do what is right for you. Good luck....See Moreallnitro
