Hi, I planted a bunch of wildflower seeds in mid april this year. The annuals (bachelor buttons, poppies, calendula, elegant clarkia, baby blue eyes, wild babies breath, cosmos, scarlet flax and a few others that I can't ID) are in full bloom now, and a few summer bloomers have buds. Some of the seeds blew out of the area I designated for them, so pretty flowers have sporodacially popped up throughout my whole yard, as well as my intended meadow.

There's about two or three dozen of this one "wildflower" but there's nothing pretty about it IMO. It's weedy looking, with tiny yellow flowers. It sprouted at same time as wildflowers and bloomed about a week before the first actual wildflower bloomed. My question is this..is it a desired wildflower, a random weed or some crap filler from the packets I bought? There's another one that has pink seed like things that I don't know if it is weed or flower. I'll post pics of both. Please help me ID, thank you so much.

Another pic of yellow thing.. it has some random heart shaped leaf vine growing up it.. that's probably weed too.. My Wildflowers are so pretty and these weedy things are driving me nuts. Weed or wildflower?

I had one of those come up in my shrub boarder last year. Dame's Rocket for sure. It smells wonderful in the evening, like the sweetest Stock! I guess it might be a pest some places, but even though I let it go to seed, it never came back. We are pretty hot and dry here, so maybe it needs more moisture. No, it's a weed that is a royal PITA. Here's the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persicaria_maculosa. You can't compost it, as the roots and stems don't die. There are great groundcovers out there, but this isn't one of them.

yes, it totally could be. This house had a well tended garden, but in the last couple years I think the owner had some health issues, and we all know how fast weed can take over. I was curious so I let it go, one of the few I did let go. I can't see the leaves at all, they are under the cover of the hosta, and I don't think they are very attractive. But, that particular yellow colored bloom and flower shape seems to look nice to me with the lupine. I'd like to try and emulate that look with something with nicer foliage. If anyone has any suggestions as to what my bloom with the lupine and resemble that sort of color and light, airy, flower, I'd love to hear them. Thank you linaria_gw!

A weed is a flowering plant and is probably wild somewhere on the planet though many in the us are european in origin. I love my plants that some see as being weeds, such as Rumex. But the rule is if you do not like it then get rid of it. Grow what you like. In the right place these undesirable plants may look quite appropriate. Just not where you want them to be!!

Thank you.. perhaps I'll pull all the Yellow ones out. There are some weeds I like, though. Not sure of the names, but some in my area get pretty purple flowers and some get pretty yellow flowers. The ones I posted are just big and weedy. Small flowers, hardly seen. They overpower the other flowers and just look weird. Thanks for help!
